US spec in the UK - Communicator

I have the K1600GTL US spec bike here in England. I'm here with the military. Ordered the bike at a German dealership and had it shipped up here to England. UK dealers wont or can't order a US spec bike.

I have the Schuberth C3 helmet and iride4u was kind enough to send me the BMW install instructions for putting the BMW Communicator into the C3. I provided these to the UK dealer. The UK dealer is saying the communicator shown looks different than the one they put into the System 6. They asked me to get a part number because when they called BMW UK, they got dodgy answers.

I called, (thank you Google Voice), a BMW dealer in Gaithersburg, MD. They are telling me they just use the Schuberth SRC bluetooth device. They further stated that the SRC is the official solution from BMW for the K1600GTL. They went the extra mile, called BMW US and found a part number for the BMW Communicator of 71602219829. Thanks to Battley's.

Could any of you more experienced BMW folks shed some light on this subject? This is my first BMW and it is a dream of a bike. Now I just want this figured out so I can go forward and purchase my wife a helmet and comms.

Thanks
Mark

Re: US spec in the UK - Communicator

Mark the Schuberth SRC still has problems with the K1600. I would suspect that the European and US versions of the Communicator are different and may not be fully compatable with each other.
Try these guys they were very helpfull when I was on the east coast.

Re: US spec in the UK - Communicator

Thanks for the info.

The folks at the dealer you mentioned stated the SRC is not the official solution and that it does not work with the wheel.

I'm now deciding on whether ordering two US comms and a Lady's C3 or I'm going to get two System 6 helmets and comms. The UK dealer said the pictures in the C3 install guide reminded him of the System 5 kit.
