K1600 poll - Problems?

Being the curious sort...and seriously considering buying a GTL, I have read a number of the on-line forums regarding this ride and have seen an alarming number of posts regarding wide variety of defects. That said, I thought it might be helpful in my attempt to make an informed purchase decision to conduct a simple poll of GT and GTL owners to see what the frequency some of these problems really are across the overall population of current owners that frequent this forum. There is no hidden agenda here...just me looking weighing the risks before I plop down $27K. Might help some other prospective buyers too...

I'll tally up the results after a couple of weeks, summarize, and post them.

Three basic questions.

1. Have you experienced ANY workmanship, mechanical, or electrical defects/problems with your K1600?
Yes or No

2. In as few words as possible please describe the problem(s) you have
encountered. Please list them all if more than one.
ie defective headlight switch and USB/Ipod problems.

3. Would you buy a K1600 again knowing what you know now?
Yes or No

Thank you to all that participate.

This guys a troll. He posted the same think on the K1600 forum.

He's a new "member" and his first post was about the problems of the K1600 and how he wouldn't plunk down $27k on one.

2) None; learning the bikes electronics takes some time and miles! Once you've mastered all the options they work well.
3) Absolutely

Re: K1600 poll - Problems?

Thanks for your feedback guys. I am still wrestling with the purchase but I think I going to pull the trigger.....life is short right?

I'm not sure what disorder Ken suffers from but apparently he forgot to take his anti paranoia meds. and he has nightmares about trolls or something. Hope you feel better soon Ken. Perhaps you should re-read those posts you mention so you can actually get your story straight.

Re: K1600 poll - Problems?

Cruise control no working....bike has 325 miles on it.

Have not hooked up the Ipod yet

I would buy this bike again and again, BMW has never disappointed me, I have had seven of them since 1985

Q: how to I get this bike to let me pull the front wheel off the ground? Even when in Dynamic mode, as soon as the wheel start to lift the power shuts down...can't seem to get it air-born!

Turn off the traction control.

Re: K1600 poll - Problems?

Yup, just traction control doing its thing! Me, I love it, since I prefer both wheels on the ground!

At least they let us turn it off for those moments when we just gotta be kids again !
