Pretty weak, I thought. No substance to the comparison. It seemed like they barely understood the bikes.

True, but the write up had a bit more substance - the video was far from "comprehensive".

I don't agree with this statement:

"if youre staring down an Iron Butt Rally or simply crisscrossing the country by way of a combination of Interstate blacktop, the venerable Gold Wing remains the most comfortable long-distance, straight-line mileage gobbler on two wheels."

They need to add: "Now that the BMW K1200LT is no longer produced"

I thought the review was spot on. The BMW is the superior touring bike for performance-minded; the Wing has the edge in comfort. Rings true to me.

Not too terribly impressed by the comparison. But then again, these ding-dongs don't even know how to mute the radio. So I'm not so sure they know anything else about the features of the GT/GTL.

00 K1200LT (Emil) 94,840 trouble free miles. Gone, but not forgotten
02 R1150RT (Artie) 109,000 miles. Favorite bike. With me to the end.
10 K1300GT (The Phantom) 10,110 miles. Like flying a T-38 on 2 wheels. Gone.
12 K1600GTL (Johnny 5) 3,500. A great compromise between the LT and GT

A gaggle of Japanese bikes, then I woke up.

Re: Motorcycle.com test K1600 GTL vs GL1800 video

I don't see the Gold Wing and the GTL as being in the same class, for anything except price. The GTL is a nice bike, but not built for driver and passenger comfort. The Wing is a nice bike, but not built for sport touring. Both will do the Dragon, and so will with K1200 LT. The line about the K1600 GTL being the 'retirement bike" for sport touring riders (GT riders anyway) hit the bulls-eye.

But one has to agree that the GTL has newer technology. Frustrating Bluetooth issues, but much never.

I guess the two reviewers never heard of bag liners, which exist for K1200 LT, Gold Wing and now the GTL. Its been years and years since I saw anybody pull laundry out of anything but a Harley, and heaven knows they have bad liners too.

I agree the text was less wishy washy.

Bill, where are the liners? I have been looking for a set of Cathie's liners for the GTL but haven't found them yet.

I guess we all see and hear things differently. From where I'm sitting, I thought they raved about the BMW as compared to the Wing. They made the Wing sound "capable" ... but the BMW was the latest and greatest thing on two wheels.
