K1600 panniers

I have looked at all the info I can on the new K1600 bikes, and it looks like the panniers will open on the side like the LT did. WHY? When you are packing stuff into them gravity makes them fall out and make it difficult to close. Maybe someday they will open from the top. I am still 2nd on the list in Seattle with my deposit on the GTL.

Re: K1600 panniers

Having bag liners solves the issue and so much more. A MUST-HAVE for panniers and the topbox. Also, I don't want to have to dig to the bottom of a pannier when the side-opening feature solves that issue as well. (I usually have a few items tucked under the bag liners that I might want access to ... like manuals, paper maps, tools, etc...)

I guess we can chalk this up to 'Different strokes for different strokes'.

Re: K1600 panniers

All of BMW's touring bikes since the late '70's, except the Adventure GS's, have had side-loading cases: '70's Krausers, '80's BMW square bags, '80's-'90's 1st though 3rd generation Integral bags, 2000's System bags, '05-on current RT/R bags.

Actually, I prefer this style -- easier to get to stuff that the bottom of the bag, wider opening.
