Question GTL at Dec 17-19 2010 Long Beach California Motorcycle Show?

Does anybody know if BMW is planning to have GTL at the display at Long Beach Motorcycle Show in Dec 17-19 2010?

Matt,
I wondered the same thing a few weeks ago:
http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57786

As a update, both the guys at Victory BMW and GoAZ tell me they think it will be there, but haven't heard definitively that the K1600 will be at the Long Beach show.

BMW is only in "select markets"

http://www.motorcycleshows.com/manuf...-manufacturers

Last year they were only at NY and CA shows. While no confirmation as of yet, this is what is being anticipated again this year - BMW will only be at the NYC and Long Beach shows.

Now, even if BMW is an exhibitor, doesn't mean the K1600's will be on display...

But if they are....I'm road trippin' to Long Beach.

The link does day they will be at Long Beach. Now they just need to tell us what will be on the truck.

If you're referring to demos, no, you won't be able to demo the bike. From what I've read, even the press won't be able to ride the bike until the spring.

I asked my dealer again, and he now tells me that the K1600 WILL be at the Long Beach show. Not sure I fully trust that info, but perhaps if we get others to confirm as well, we can feel confident that a trip to CA will be worth it.

They didn't have it in San Mateo a couple of weeks ago. I don't think they're rolling it out in the US markets yet.

Again, BMW only focuses on the Long Beach and New York shows. I think it's very likely the bike will be in Long Beach. Not sure if there'll be a GT but there should at least be the GTL (the one unveiled at Jay Leno's garage). I'll be taking photos and 1080P videos if it is there.

If you're in the east or passing close to Toronto, Ontario, both bikes will be on display at the Toronto bike show Dec. 17 to 19.

Regardless if they confirm it or not, I will be at the show this year.
If they show the bike(s), I hope to be able to squeeze through the crowd and take a few pix.

As far as I can tell, the only major Toronto motorcycle show is in April 2011. I think he just got the date mixed up with Long Beach.

Of course by then the bikes might have already started arriving at dealers anyway.

Sorry, I was looking at the wrong month! Both bikes will be in Toronto this coming weekend, Dec. 10 to 12, 100%. My dealer will be there for the dealer intro on Dec. 9, and prices for options will be made available. MSRP has already been announced.

This is the only manufacturers' show:

Thumbs down Re: GTL at Dec 17-19 2010 Long Beach California Motorcycle Show?

Toronto Motorcycle show BIG disappointment.

Where to begin...
Just got back from the Toronto show and was eagerly looking forward to "sampling" the K1600GTL. Well, there was NO GTL, only the GT version. According to a sales staff, BMW (insert your own reasoning) decided to send only ONE model???? Now, what do you think the chances are that BOTH will magically show up at the Long Beach show??

I'm trying to get my head wrapped around what message BMW is sending to us Canadians (Toronto show anyway). Our economy is fairing better than our southern friends and yet, BMW thinks we Canucks won't like / want the GTL.
The dealers are strongly "suggesting" that a deposit should be forthcoming ASAP if you want to secure a delivery slot for spring however, I can't see one, can't touch one, can't compare the two (i.e. ergonomics etc.) and I'm currently not feeling any warm and fuzzy feeling from BMW.
I was really looking forward to possibly becoming a convert (Goldwing to GTL) however, I'm wondering if this is a sample of what to expect from the motherland?
FYI - I am posting this message on another site as well.

Re: GTL at Dec 17-19 2010 Long Beach California Motorcycle Show?

It's absurd to think BMW is only marketing the GT to Canada just because they didn't have the GTL at the show. The entire company skips out on nearly all motorcycle shows in the U.S. Does that mean they only care about selling BMWs in California and New York? Of course not.

Either they were doing something else with the GTL or they decided to save money since they pay for floor space at these shows and they are expensive.

Well that's a surprise.. the dealer I'm buying a GTL from was told that both bikes will be there and they were excited to also see them.. I'll have to find out why the GTL didn't make it. Since I have a deposit on a GTL, I'm going to go and sit on the GT and find out when I'll be able to do the same on a GTL.

Supposedly these bikes are pre-production models.

Thanks for the heads up.. I'm calling my dealer tomorrow.

OUCH....

One thing I did notice on the "display" model was 2 missing screws on the dash. The rear tire (centre tread) looked like it had just been driven and someone forgot to do a thorough cleaning before setting up for the public's scrutiny???

As dissapointing as it is for potential customers to travel to see a bike that is not displayed. We have to remember that these are prototypes and are undergoing testing when they are not being displayed. I just hope that BMW can get any bugs worked out and production started in time to deliver the bikes for the upcoming riding season.

Re: GTL at Dec 17-19 2010 Long Beach California Motorcycle Show?

I was chatting with my salesman at the Toronto bike show and I asked him why the GTL isn't on display and he said both bikes were in Brazil and the GTL was held up in customs in Brazil.. the GT was air freighted to the Toronto show. I hope the folks going to the California show will get to see it and take lots of pics, although we've seen plenty already.

Here's a pic suggestion:

a sitting picture taken from the side of the same person sitting on the GT and then the GTL to give an idea of posture.

This is what I tried to do with my pics, although my friend, who took the shots of me on the GTL at the EICMA show, could not really make it as I wanted.

Anyway... pics of the GTL:

Rear-Lateral

Would you happen to have the same poses on a GT? that's exactly the kind of pic I'd like to see; same person on both bikes.

Re: GTL at Dec 17-19 2010 Long Beach California Motorcycle Show?

I've never tried the new GT 1600 to make a comparison.

With the OLD GT1300, which I tried for a weekend, I was sitting differently, the bike is different in all senses. Fun beast, but not as comfy as the LT, at least with the stock equipment. I don't have pics for the seating position, though, I only remember it being more forward-oriented.

My opinion of the GTL - by seating on it at the Milan fair - is that it's as good as the LT, if not better because you're seating lower and therefore you have more confidence to move it around at lower speeds. I liked also the seat, it seems a bit wider and flatter than the stock LT which is causing me a bit of pain in the long trips.

Of course, it's just a test where I sat for 5 minutes on a standing bike, I'm still waiting to ride for a 3-4 hours trip at least, to make a real judgement call. I remember that also the K1300GT felt very good when I was in the BMW parking lot It took me a couple of hours to start feeling the difference.

Hi, if any other Zonies want to ride out to Long Beach this weekend, we've got a group going over at AZ Beemers Forum. Here's the link.

Local dealer was allotted 12 GTL's and all were sold before the price was announced.
