GTL pics from the EICMA in Milan

Ok guys, I promised them and here they are

I've put all the pics in a couple of mini-websites, click on the thumbnails to access the larger picture (1024px) and please notice the comments below the full-size picture, they might be helpful as well.

K1600 GTL pics

BMW and Husky Pics

Additional info: I'm 178cm tall (5' 10") with 82-83cm inseam (32.5 inches).

The first set of pictures show how easy I reach the ground (much easier than with the LT) and the riding position, which seems to be straight and relaxed. I've also added a picture on a Kawa 1400 (GTR in EU, Connie in the US) to show the comparison: I'm much more leaning forward on the Connie.

I also took a few shots of the seats, which appear to be low but wide and comfy (as far as you can judge when you're on a stand...).

The cases look spacey, although the top case is lower than the one on the K1300GT which was just aside (sorry, forgot to take a pic). I love the two lateral compatments with a key to lock them, there's plenty of space for phone, glasses, wallet and keys.

I didn't figure out how to operate the various switches and the rotating control... it definitely needs a good read of the user manual

Overall, I liked it very much. Seems to fit my taste, for ergonomics, space and comfort

PS: Have a look also at the second series of pictures... they're at least worth a look

Re: GTL pics from the EICMA in Milan

Thanks for the pics, they are most certainly very helpful. Nice touch with the 2 compartments on the side. The chrome bar on the left side of the engine is just decorative, not an engine guard. There's an optional engine guard that loops out near the bottom, but it's not installed on the bike.

I'm afraid to ask, but there a price on the Akrapovic silencers?

Aha... that's the engine guard then! Sorry for that.

Nothing that I noticed had a price tag, including the bike

I went to the Akrapovic website (because all the BMW motorrad websites didn't have a price, either) and found this:

- silencer for K1300GT: 1,064 € (one silencer)
- full exhaust for S1000RR: 1,781 € (silencer + full exhaust)
- silencer for K1300S/R: 1,252 € (one silencer)

So, make your maths... the GTL would be 2 silencers... probably between 1,800€ and 2,400€

The windshield looks huge next to you. Was it taller than you? Could you see over it? I assume it was in the lowered position.

Yes, it was in lower position, or almost All the way down
(I was playing with the switches, it could have been slightly up).

I didn't notice if I could look over it, but looking at the photo I would say no. The screen looks narrow but can go quite high, and you're also sitting quite low into the bike.

I'm used to my Z-technik V-Stream, so any other windscreen looks small :-)
I wonder how the Wind protection would be... But that's an easy fix, before I buy a GTL I'm sure that Z-technik will have an aftermarket unit for it :-)

Love my LT! This just doesn't look like a happy replacement for it. Appears too much like the GT I sold to get my LT.

I agree with you that this is more GT then LT. So it would a smoother transition for people who are currently riding GTs.

Based on my experience, I really don't understand how you can say that.

There's nothing in the riding position and ergonomics that reminds me of the K1300GT

Re: GTL pics from the EICMA in Milan

There's no mystery here; just compare the two bikes and you can see the seating position is almost exactly identical between the GTL and the LT, with the bars being a bit higher on the GTL (but torso position is identical) and the footpegs are slightly further back on the GTL but not by much. And both are identical in size.

The K1600GT on the other hand is identical to the K1300GT except that the legs are mmuch further forward, which is nice.

My wife can't feel the heat from the LT's backrest, because she wears a riding jacket with a built-in back protector pad. And if I get that cold, I just put my heated jacket liner in and I'm warm all over.

So no biggie for us.

Yeah really, a heated backrest seems ridiculous to me. Just dress properly and use a heated inner liner if it's cold enough.

Thanks for the great pics, Corrado.

I was interested in the quick release for the top case. I'm assuming it has a "finished trim" look under there for riding without the case?

Now, I'm not sure I'll really have the patience to wait a couple of years.

Uhm... I haven't been allowed to take the top case off the bike... no, wait... I assumed I wasn't allowed, maybe they would have let me do it

I was too busy trying to borrow a couple of helmets from the BMW merchandise shop, to see if the top case has enough room for them both Useless to add, I didn't succeed in that either

PS: Have a look also at the second series of pictures... they're at least worth a look
why does it look like theres a big gap to the outside in the rear of the back trunk?

Re: GTL pics from the EICMA in Milan

Did you notice if there were any ports for a wired intercom or will it just be Blutooth?

The only plug I noticed (but I wasn't really looking for them) is the one for the iPod (USB + audio combined).

Thanks from what I have read that is what I suspected. New Blutooth for all the helmets and we will have to remember to plug them in each night.

Re: GTL pics from the EICMA in Milan

Great pics, thanks.

The bike looks beautiful and what a state of the art instrument console. I like nearly everything about the machine.....but oh dear what a place to stick an antenna. That gets a thumbs down from me. The LT antenna is much better placed. Having said that it doesn't put me off enough to not want one!

Re: GTL pics from the EICMA in Milan

Rather than post pics of the GT at the Toronto show today, I'll post a couple of pics that have not been posted before.

Central locking: Quite simple, there's a solenoid that pushes a small rod into the lock mechanism, locking the pannier.

First picture, you can see it in the lower right corner. Second picture, you can see what gets pushed up to secure the lock. No wire contacts, nothing. I was told for the GTL topcase, the second "diagnostic" plug under the passenger seat is the electrical harness for the top case's brake light, interior light and lock mechanism.

Bonus picture: there's a second accessory plug next to the battery box, under the rider's seat:

one more of the pannier spoiler:
