Exclamation World Exclusive: Inside the new K1600 final drive!

I've been selected by Mr. Oliver Schultz to publicly announce to the USA market the details of the new final drive system that has been under intensive development for the past three years:

"The carbon cords inside the patented BMW Warp Drive belt offer, for the first time, the necessary tensile strength and high modulus to provide the smooth, clean, and long lasting ride advantage of a “belt” driven system in a motorcycle application. The specially designed tooth pitch and meticulously engineered sprocket profile afford the belt efficiency equal to that of a standard chain, with the low tension necessary to prevent unnecessary bearing load on other components.

Completely enclosed in a weatherproof black forged aluminum housing, a port at the bottom of the housing allows for quick wear inspection using a simple flashlight since the belt has colored "wear bars" to indicate the remaining useful life before replacement. Finished in a traditional blue and black color scheme the belt is visually attractive and screams BMW quality.

The super-light sprockets are finished with a new coating specifically formulated to provide unmatched durability. Already referred to as a “magic Item, that will eliminate final drive failures virtually forever” BMW Warp Drive offers a truly revolutionary technology that already will create an amazing amount of end-user interest and demand. The new drive comes with a 100,000 mile no questions asked warranty."

All I can say is - Bravo BMW!

Nice one, Ron. The reason I call BS is that they are 'almost' admitting they have a problem with the FD

I'd have bought into it if it said: "I've been selected by Mr. Oliver Schultz to get the hell off my BMW!"

If BMW switches to belt drive on their big touring bikes, would we be whining or pleased?

Nice try and it's not even april 1 !

So instead of just having to worry about the bearing going bad, you also have to carry extra belts. Now that is the BMW corporation that I know!

Of course, you will need to purchase a new BMW "low tension" harmonic tension meter to make sure it is not over tightened.

Re: World Exclusive: Inside the new K1600 final drive!

Doesn't BMW have belts on some of their 650's & or 800's? If so why not the GTL? No seal leaks, no oil changes, just ride.

Ron, I think you may have a good idea here...

Funny how a fresh look at an old, simple idea - that is taking the bicycle world by storm - would be such an idiot proof way to propel a motorcycle.

Why Carbon Drive Systems | Gates Corporation

If BMW stood by their original, guiding ideology they would have elegant, high tech engineering solutions like this.

But that would be WAY too easy.

Mr. Schultz sends his warmest regards.

(I've run Gates brand belts and hoses in all my vehicles for the past 20 years. If they're good enough to be specified in aircraft engines they're good enough for me, and they usually last at least three to four times as long as standard fare)

Technically all beeswax is virgin. Only the Queen is not a virgin and she does not produce wax. Males (Drones) also do not produce beeswax. If you are looking for virgin beeswax I'm your man. BMW virgin beeswax will cost you extra.

Hence my name
