The video gives you a better idea of scale and I think the GTL is slightly larger and longer than the current GT.

Re: Jay Leno video with the K1600GTL

I like how Jay spent so mich time talking about BMW cars and their smooth 6 cyl engines. I'm not aware of any cross sharing that is going on between the car division and the motorcycle division. Am I wrong?

Re: Jay Leno video with the K1600GTL

I'm not usually one to "go for" something new,
it takes me a while to "warm up" to a new motorcycle.

When I saw the first K-bike in 1985,
I thought that's got to be the ugliest motorcycle I've ever seen,
five years later I bought one, then another.

When I saw the first LT, I thought "that's a Goldwing"
why would anybody want one of those?
Then I test drove one at a rally!!
Five years later I bought one, then another,

I may have to "re-think" my "pattern"
I'm impressed,
I want one and maybe then another.

Does that tool (Jay) ever wear anything but denim shirts. Sorry...I can't stand the spineless man.And I use the term "man" loosely here. Love the bike though.

I wish I could think of clever things to say in my signature.

I get a little put off by the "Jay's Garage" crap, honestly. OK, great, you have half a billion dollars' worth of vehicles. How wonderful for you.

Hey, Pete, buy me a ticket and I'll go straight to Jay's garage & be your spokesman.

Jay, I'm here on behalf of those who oppose your shameless flaunting of wealth and posession here in your garage. You're a disgrace! Just look at this! ....ooooo, shiny, can I have a ride?...."

On second thought, my objectivity could get compromised, but it's a chance I'm willing to take.

That could work. Actually, I knew a programmer once who wore the same thing every day. I said something to him, & turned out he had a closet full of identical shirts & pants. Didn't waste his time making decisions about what to wear. Guy was very smart, but out there.

That is the main reason I left my Bushtec white . It will match any color bike.

Re: Jay Leno video with the K1600GTL

To each his own. Jay Leno's Garage is one of my favorite web sites. Yes, he's rich and I am jealous, but I don't have his talent and I don't say yucky things about him because I'm jealous! He has said that he never spends his NBC salary ($25 Million/year?) but lives off of his weekend comedy gigs. And don't forget the write ups a few years ago I think in the BMW ON, where some beemer riders ran into him at a roadside restaurant and he was on his bike. On the spot he invited them along to see his warehouse(s) filled with his cars and bikes and gave them a tour and was very gracious.

Do think he gets to keep the bike and ride it? If he does I will watch the Tonight Show faithfully provided he lets me have an up close & personal look at it. Maybe Jay will arrange a special viewing for all of us fortunate enough to reside in So Cal. After all we pay dearly for the privilege of living here - there should be some perks.

Re: Jay Leno video with the K1600GTL

Did anyone else notice that Jay referred to this bike as "the touring model" and I believe the BMW VP called it a "luxury tourer". True, they could mean the "touring model" of this particular model, but I dunno... To me it kinda seems to settle the debate whether this is the LT's replacement or not. I believe it is and there isn't another luxury tourer in BMW's pipeline.

Re: Jay Leno video with the K1600GTL

I don't know that my saying "I guess he doesn't have an iron" is saying something yucky about the guy as much as it's an observation. For someone who makes about $50 million a year, he looks sloppy when he makes appearances because his "uniform"-- jeans and wrinkled denim shirt-- looks a little off.

If I had his cash, in addition to the three people he has on staff just to walk around his warehouse dusting his cars and starting them on a regular rotation to keep the hoses from drying out and batteries fresh (not kidding), I'd have someone freshen up my shirts--or buy a new one once in a while.

But that's just me.

Of course, I'm typing this sitting in cargo shorts and a BMW t-shirt, so what the hell do I know?

Was that crashing sound my glass house and a rock?

(just jealous, as I was reading this month's Motorcyclist magazine and saw where Yamaha GAVE him a racebike last month, just for hosting a press conference of some sort...I offered Yamaha my back yard and they didn't even send me a parts catalog)
