FIXED ! SEE BELOW:

Actually this list is a result of input of a number of posters on several boards. I got energetic and did the metric conversions to keep those metric challenged folks from getting a headache

Feel free to add the LT data and post up. It would be interesting to throw that in the comparison mix.

I took a ride on an LT several months ago. Nice ride, but not my thing. I like a bit sportier rides. My wife, however, absolutely loves the LT seat, and noticed immediately that the GTL seat look like the LT seat. Since I have the large top case on my RR, same as the RT, it's her favorite backrest, so should not be a problem with her accepting the GTL seat and backrest. Her real hot button item is armrests. As soon as the BMW part list shows up with the part number, I am going to order a set for my top box. Those are cheaper than a new bike !

But I do like the look of the GT in red !

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Interesting they must be using LED lighting for everything, how else could they get by with only 580W alternator.

A request for one more (important) datapoint: allowable load (max weight - bike weight).

Thanks!

Allowable load (max):

GTL: 212 kg / 467 lb
GT: 221 kg / 487 lb
LT: 213 kg / 470 lb
RT: 236 kg / 520 lb (includes the weight of the cases!)

Again, the RT wins !

The useful load figures also bring up the point that a lot of bikes are seriously overloaded with "stuff" and two riders !

Just for comparison, the GL1800 Goldwing 2010 figures:

Wet weight, full fuel ready to ride: 892 - 919 lbs, depending on option packages selected.

GVWR: 1338 lbs. Useful load is 418 lbs.

Curb 405kg/892 lbs (F: 185kg; R: 220kg), to 417kg/919 lbs (F: 192kg; R: 225kg)

Max. Carrying Capacity 190kg/418 lbs

Loaded Weight 607kg/1338 lbs (F: 232kg; R: 375kg)

I think it's a close call with the K1600GT. You have to deduct the weight of the side cases of the RT from the allowable load (say round 25 - 30 lb).

I will check, but I think that since the RT comes with the side cases, they are included in the useful load calculation. The top case probably would deduct from the load.

In this discussion we are actually missing the pertinent part of the equation anyway, power to weight ratio. These calculate thus:

K16GT = 540 kg = 1190.49 lbs (160 hp) = 7.44 lbs/hp
L16GTL = 560 kg = 1234.58 lbs (160 hp) = 7.71 lbs/hp
R12RT = 495 kg = 1,091.2 lbs (110 hp) = 9.91 lbs/hp

The K16 wins hands down on the power loading factor, and will accelerate accordingly. The RT carries slightly more useful load, but does its thing in a slightly more sedate manner with it boxer engine. R's will not be drag-racing with K's in a straightaway !

All the bikes beat the wimpy alternator on the K16
