Exclamation First quality issue with K1600?

During my visit at the Intermot yesterday I noticed that all K1600's had this: moist inside the lampunit. Is this the first quality issue that surfaces?

That's not water, those are the "load leveling micro-beads that allow the light particles from the HID system to be cast through the curves as you turn, regardless of the bike's pitch and lean caused by braking or acceleration forces."

They just accumulate in the front of the headlight housing at rest.

I was thinking the same thing, with all the HYPE about Dynabeads, how could the Germans ignore it

Wait until you see the spec sheet to see how much extra they cost!

But seriously folks...
I highly doubt if what is being presented at this show is actually the finished product.

Re: First quality issue with K1600?

It's probably a pre production model... usually they have removable covers to change the bulbs.. with all the hands on the bike.. who knows if the covers are still on!

Re: First quality issue with K1600?

you guys are wrong. Obviously, the condensation is being caused by the final drive. And the wrong oil.....

For $1200.00 you can order the vented lamp cover with a 1.5mm drain hole in it that stops this.....

I had this option included in the cost of my R80RT. As a side option it also took care of the water that found its way in the headlight compartment the few times that the tabs holding the glass cover were not fully engaged.

Well, with dyna-beads in that adaptive light...at least there won't be any cupping.

Re: First quality issue with K1600?

I would say if it is moisture and after looking at it I can not tell, it is from the bike sitting still and not receiving any air to the light housing. My 07 had little rubber boot elbows that vented. I would guess the AC hitting the hot bulb housing with no air exchange would do it.

I would suspect that the head light housing is not sealed do to the moving mirror.

Re: First quality issue with K1600?

LOL, I can't wait to see the service techs try to work on that new headlamp. They have had my k13 for 7 weeks trying to figure out how to get the xeon light consistently and that technology has been around for many years.

The lamp cooler is a $2,000 option. It actually cools the lamp and the excess heat is used for the espresso machine and milk steamer housed in the top case.

I hear that there will be an Energy Star rating on the bike for this setup.
