Fuel leak

World's Greatest Pillion Rider and I headed for Montpelier mid morning today.
Got about 5 miles, smelled fuel.
Then saw fuel spewing out right side of bike.
Seconds later bike stopped.

Hitch hike, get truck and trailer, home in a couple of hours. Pretty painless. But not that much fun, really.

Nice! low mileage 2018 K1600GTL. That brought back the remorse on parting with the KLT, huh?

Search shows earlier K1600s had known fuel leak problems including a BMW recall.

Now need to learn how to get the Tupperware off the GTL so I can investigate. Supposedly the GTL is easier than the KLT for plastic removal, but I've never done it before and don't have a shop manual yet.

Re: Fuel leak

Maybe just let the warranty take care of it?

Yeah, thought I'd take a look and see if an easy fix but not being familiar with the Tupperware removal, and not having a manual, that's exactly what I am going to do.

Coincidentally, I have an appointment for a recall next week, supposedly a "software update". I was hoping to be able to ride there, now looks like I'll be trailering.

I don't know what the warranty is but I've had the bike less than 12 months so expect BMW will take care of it.

Discouraged.

Re: Fuel leak

I'm not sure how close your dealer is, but call them and see if the warranty will cover towing your bike there.
