Cool CA 1600GTL rental

Not sure if this has come up but I am renting a GTL from MotoQuest June 1 for 16 days. I have the new Garmin 590 and need some way to do a temporary mounting for the trip. I know it will not fit in the GPS space. Not gonna buy a GTL and I don't want to spend a lot of $$ for this short term need.
Anyone have suggestions?

Re: CA 1600GTL rental

My 590LM also came with a suction cup mount. It might meet your temporary need, but I'm not familiar with the K1600 to know if there's somewhere flat to mount it, and I'd be wary of using it without adding an additional security tether, just in case the suction cup or it's ball mount decided to pop off at the wrong moment. Good luck whichever way you go!

Re: CA 1600GTL rental

Dave,
When I first got it I used the suction cup on our smooth counter top. About 30 min. later I heard the whole thing hit the floor. So, the suction cup is screwed to a board for use in my truck. I do not recommend suction cups for anything of value.
Would it be possible to hang it down from the visor that is over the GPS hole?

You say that with confidence. I demoed one and fell in love with it so much that I bought the demo!!!!

The LT is one awesome bike. I truly loved mine, but the GTL is in a class all by itself.

Re: CA 1600GTL rental

Well I can say I have demoed one and it did not get me excited. The LT I demoed in 2005 did get me excited and I did buy one. That wasn't my experience with the 1600. It's strokes and folks.
I am interested in a dual sport for bike #2 but the LT will stay with me.

Re: CA 1600GTL rental

I don't think that you can mount the NAV under the dash in front of the stock NAV location.

I mounted my RAM Mount in place of the left switchgear clamp. You will have to buy 2 longer bolts though.
There is a place to mount your NAV on the handlebars too, if you have the RAM Mount with X-Grip for handlebars. It does cost a little under $50.

Re: CA 1600GTL rental

Jesse,
Thanks for that suggestion. It gives me an idea where I may not have to remove anything from the rental and still plug it into power.
