Cool Movin' On Up?

I'm 3 years into my 4 year 3asy Ride program on my GTL, so I thought I'd check into the idea of sliding into a new toy. BMW is pushing the incentives on the GTL-E at $2,250 off of 2014 bikes, so I thought I'd see how the numbers pan out. My dealer tells me that there's just over 30 new 2014 GTL-E's in the U.S. for sale; only 2 are in CA (Michigan has 20% of those??). Both of those CA dealers won't part with their bikes by way of dealer trade. They searched for 2015's (a $1,250 incentive). But, there aren't as many 15's as there are 14's! Not to mention, these bikes have risen so much in price, it's making it harder and harder to make the move upward to the next model. With the Nav V, you're looking at just over $32K! That's not including the Schuberth's and Comm systems.

There's no incentives on GTL's right now, and they're somewhat scarce too. My dealer has 3 GT's (no incentives), but add a top case and you have a slightly sporty GTL I guess. Or, the new RT wet-head is very hard to beat with hill-start, keyless ride, shift-assist pro and other nice features. What it may lack in ponies versus the GTL, it makes up for in being 160+ pounds lighter - and not to mention thousands cheaper.

Hmm, what to do...

If you really want the 2014 GTL-E, I would go to Michigan, buy it and ride it home. Nice trip!

Re: Movin' On Up?

At our local Club Meeting (BMWMOC.org) last week a sales rep from one of our dealers told us that at least in Ohio they are overstocked with trade-in bikes and are not taking any more for deals against a new purchases.

He mentioned that the deals are for the loaner/trials that BMWNA requires. They can sell those after they accumulate 3,500 on the ODO.

Re: Movin' On Up?

I would not hesitate on a used one. My 2011 (2012!) is coming up on 4 years, has about 24,000 miles and rides better every day. A few minor defects were replaced and it rides better to day than when it was new.

I've thought about buying a new one, but can't come up with a good reason...Maybe it would be cleaner!

Re: Movin' On Up?

Well, I looked at GTL but my '03 LTE runs strong! and Ohlins improved handling so have just kept putting on the miles (123K) ... so, what would I go for, eh? Today, apparently a black 1100S w/Ohlins & Remus and pretty low miles (I just don't understand low mileage). Yes, next week there will be a disturbance in The Force here on The Central Coast.

Re: Movin' On Up?

Well, I pulled the trigger a 2015 GTL. The warranty on my '12 had just ran out, so it was pretty easy to slide into a new one. There was difficulty in finding one, had to trade it out of Las Vegas. So far, loving the few subtle improvements. Gee, the color sure does clash though; Glacier Silver on top, Mineral Silver on bottom. Oh well...
