Top box rear lighting question

Have our eye on a new/used 2014 K1600GT with only 700 miles. Obviously need to add a top box for wife's comfort but am told the rear trunk light is for brake light only. Is there a way to enhance the top box light so it can also be a running light as well as a brake light?

Still riding a 2008 LT which has a trail blazer light built into the trunk rack light. It has saved our a$$ on numerous occasion while pulling our Unigo trailer.

Haven't pulled the trigger yet, but am getting dangerously close.

Any advice on improving rear visibility would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Top box rear lighting question

Hey Gary, Here is a video of my tail light flasher I installed. Since this video I have also turned the light into a running light. It stays on at about 1/3 power for the running light till I hit the brakes then comes on full.
Both parts to do both conversions was less the $65.00 total & very easy to install.

Here is a thread on the K1600 forum that talks about it.

Steve, thanks for your suggestion!

If I get the GT, I will give it a try.

Re: Top box rear lighting question

Actually, the subject had been heavily talked about on the RT side of the forum, since the topbox for both are the same. If you don't have the Clearwater lights (with Canopenner) on the bike, then the cheapest solution is to add Skene's controller: Skene Design Motorcycle Visibility Lights. $54.99. This will give you direction to convert your topbox LED: Skene Design Motorcycle Visibility Lights

NOTE: One member that did this installation did not like the result, even though the topbox LED did exactly what he wanted. He had two complaints, and that was with the installation, the inside light of the topbox flickers. The second complaint was that the Skene controller is very hard to configure (having to press the brake in certain sequence within 5 seconds of power-up).
