Warranty Recall on Handlebar Switches K1600GTL

I was scheduling a spring service on my 2013 GTL and the dealership told me that my handlebar switches are under a recall and will need to be replaced. I spoke to another dealer and they never said a word about the recall. Has anyone heard about this issue with the printed circuit boards failing?

Re: Warranty Recall on Handlebar Switches K1600GTL

I would be real concerned about a "dealer" that doesn't know about the recall or problems with the handlebar switches.

There have been a few threads about them but the bottom line is that most have failed and the redesign seems to have fixed the problem with both sides.

Definitely get them replaced.

You will find a lot more about it here:

I had both of mine done on the recall 6 months ago. I was in for a minor service & my dealer told me they had done it after I picked it up.

Same here. Mine were proactively replaced months ago by the former LoneStar BMW, now BMW of Austin (ugh).

The LS guys have always treated me right.

Cheers!

Re: Warranty Recall on Handlebar Switches K1600GTL

Had mine in for the 6K service and the dealer said they would be replacing both sets of switches under warranty. I had heard about the problems, but never had any myself. He said if the clusters fell in a certain number range, they were all getting replaced. Sounds good to me! It added about an hour to my service appointment, but they give me a GS to take for a spin. About two hours later, I was back and my bike was done! No harm in giving them extra time to work on it, right??

Same here in Calgary Canada, took mine in today for some spring service work and both cluster switches to be replaced due to recall. As well as DME integration level software update?

Dan nails it for me! My dealer informed me when I brought it in for routine maintenance service. Glad they did it before it failed!

Re: Warranty Recall on Handlebar Switches K1600GTL

My servicing dealer checked on mine during the 18K service but my bike was not included. It's a 2014 built in late 13'. Not all bikes have the old switch design. Dealer should alert you though...

Re: Warranty Recall on Handlebar Switches K1600GTL

I have a 2012 K1600 GTL and was told by the dealer there was a recall on both handle bar controls. Both were working fine but both were replaced for free after my warranty had expired. At the time, I was more interested in the 20,000km service and other work that I was having done (including the first service I had done as I had recently bought this bike) and I don't even recall why the recall was necessary. 11K, I had the third set done yesterday as well as the DME integration update. I have lost power to the left controls intermittently in the first two switches, worst of it is I lose my headlight in the process. Well, new switch yesterday and we're off and rolling again.
