2015 Black K1600 - finally!

Looks like the 2015 GT/GTL will have all the do dads of the Exclusive and most importantly come in black. So now my little brain is working overtime wondering if I need to get in the purchase line.

I think the '15 GTL will have some of those Exclusive features listed as options; oh and black is the slowest color!

Dark Graphite is the fastest!

Brett, black may be the slowest color (so you say... ) but it's the color that might be the price of admission for a K1600 for yours truly. One of the reasons we have a newer K1200LT is because the last two years they were made ('08 and '09) they were available only in black, and SWMBO said if we got a new bike it had to be black. So, I'm working on extending that logic to a new K1600. Admittedly, a tough sell... "But honey, we won't have to repaint the Bushtec to match the new K1600..."

And BTW, I think a black K1600 looks great. I REALLY liked the red, but that is now discontinued.

Re: 2015 Black K1600 - finally!

Well if you can believe what has been written about the updates to the 2015 K1600 there really isn't much to be excited about. The colors are nothing special or unique. If you like black you will be happy. A black bike in my world is an absolute pain in the neck to take care of.. I was hoping for shift assist, but no such luck this year. Perhaps in 2016 along with some imaginative color choices.

Yea, me too, but that was the only thing that didn't make the list. Still get the push button start and for me a whole host of tech upgrades from the 2005 model...bluetooth, traction control, updated nav, etc.

Since Honey Bunny doesn't ride as much, I'll need to test ride the GT as well. I'm going with whichever ergos feel the best.

But first I need a transition plan...sell...trade...

Ok, Airwolf sold in two days! Woo Hoo! Now the hard part, wait.

PS - Also traded my Hyundai Elantra for a Nissan Leaf. So I've gone from zoom zoom to something barely above mass transit. The sacrifices we make for these bikes...

Re: 2015 Black K1600 - finally!

Glad to see at least 2 decent colors on the GT, with the black and white. I've always like black, but that's the only color my wife told me not to get for safety reasons (want the missus happy ), so I've obligued over the years. Therefore, only white is left. If the orange didn't have the stickers clear-coated (for easy removal), I'd consider that one too. But I don't think it's a great idea to have the belly pan painted, as pretty as it looks when new. I like the short windscreen, but I could probably buy one for cheap since it's universally hated by most owners. I'm close to getting my money back from the recalled RT, so will have to wait a few months for the '15s to hit the market. Have a good one folks.

You guys really got me thinking........

I like that bike more and more. With the latest aftermarket wind protection that I've been hearing about, I think the SO could be comfortable. I just showed her this thread and she didn't say no!!!

Re: 2015 Black K1600 - finally!

I can't afford to trade my LT so you won't be lonely hschisler. I think most vehicles 4 or 2 wheels all look better in certain colours some suit some don't . For me Black is depressing and a pain to keep clean and look like ice rinks showing off all tiny scratches. For me the Exclusive is nice but the cream colour needs toning down and broken up with another colour. I get mad when manufacturers give minimal colour choice. Before buying my LT I had been waiting to buy a New Kawasaki Concours 1400. Got tired of waiting for a colour I liked so bought the Beemer instead. Life to short for factories to get colours right. I remember when starting my apprenticeship in 1970 you had great colour options ordering your car, mixing and matching. Of course you had to wait for delivery not like today's get it in a couple of days with no options unless you like black or grey interiors and few choices of paint colour ( Boring)

It is only natural to move to newer bikes over time. I seriously considered the GTL a year ago when my clutch first started slipping. However, after spending a couple of weeks on one in Europe last year, my wife and I decided that the LT is still a better fit for the riding we do (long distance, two-up, mix of roads from interstate to dirt roads).

So, I plan to bite the bullet and tear down the LT this winter to attempt a clutch repair. Looks like a lot of work, but doable with a few more special tools such as the bar to hold the engine from spinning. Then hopefully I will get another 7 years and 46K out of the LT. Will look to trade at the century mark and who knows what will be available when my LT hits 100K?

A length test ride is the key. Whether you love the GTL or not depends on your riding style and what you value. I did a two week test ride through the Alps. I liked the performance and lighter weight, but didn't like the weather protection, too low seat height, lack of reverse, and whiz wheel controller and my wife didn't like sitting so much higher than me and the lack of wind protection, a decent back rest and passenger controls for the radio. I think the Exclusive has addressed some of the comfort issues and I understand that two grand of aftermarket seats, windshield and wind deflectors helps the comfort situation.

I'll be there with ya Howard on my '99. It has everything I wanted on it to make it the most comfortable, protected from the elements bike I've ever owned. Now, maybe semi-retire it and think about Dave's '09.

The clutch job is not to bad ,just time consuming. Go to the hardware store and buy a piece of metal stock 1/8 " thick X 1.5" wide X 8.5" long drill some holes noy you have your engine tool.

Brett/Jer/Voyager, I did a very short solo test ride the first year the GTL was out. Just down the highway a few miles and back, in lieu of a longer/better test ride at some future date. My wife likes the LT so much it's going to be a hard sell, but perhaps in the future a GT/GTL will be in the garage. The poorly-designed passenger handles were one obstacle but then BMW went and fixed that! Other improvements have been introduced, of course.

I think renting one for an all-day or weekend outing is the way to go for us. I already know the new engine is a monster, and I have played with the wheel controller thing enough to know that it's a straightforward learning curve that introduces more flexibility and options. My wife would actually look forward to seeing over my helmet, although I'm not sure that's possible given our height differences.

I love the GTL in black - at least, from the photos. I'd also like it in one of several shades of red, blue, green (Toscana Green - yes!), and silver. A guy here at Fort Knox has a silver GTL that is very sharp.

Call me nostalgic, call me resistant to change, but I'm still waiting for the all new 2015 black K1200LT (4 or 6 cylinder will do). Until then, I converted my 2005 Blueray to a Corbin mounted K1200LT Black Beauty. She's all machine and all luxury touring...winter, spring, summer & fall....
