A simple trick that might help with MPG is to reset the TPS sensor.
Turn the key on but DO NOT start the bike.
Twist throttle from full stop to full on 2 times.
Turn key off & wait a few minutes.
Start bike as normal.
This tells the computer the range of the throttle & has helped with fuel mileage in the past.

If mileage down and black soot in tailpipe that is normally o2 sensor, trouble is these bikes seem to have a tiny amount normally but if you use a bit of white paper towel and drag it lightly with a finger out while touching the last inch of tailpipe and get a coating of soot I would change sensor - cars have virtually no black soot if o2 OK, at least none of mine have, ever, if O2 OK

Have one in Lincolnshire if you are prepared to pay postage charges and guarantee return / replacement etc
