Replacing rear main seal

I am doing a clutch job on my 2000 LT. While in there I want to have a look at the rear main seal. In watching Kirk's video he uses a tool the lock plate into place while he crack the jack nut. It looks like a flat metal bar with holes at either end to bolt it onto the housing. Is it a simple as that. If so I assume I can make one.
Help is appreciated.

The CLYMER manual has an example of what this looks like. No real complicated measurements that you cannot take yourself with simple tools.

Look at 2 attached picture for 2 examples made by 2 different persons...

Yes. Made out of flat bar stock.

If not leaking or showing evidence of leakage, I'd consider leaving it alone.

Just did the clutch on my '03, the clutch failed because of the slave cylinder. Replace (2) parts, the clutch disk and the slave cylinder. Rear main looked Ok as did the transmission seal so left both of them alone. See where they typically last well over 100K.

Re: Replacing rear main seal

When you do remove the clutch housing you will have to dig out a hardened 19 x 4 o-ring on the shaft that was most likely the cause of the leak. Best to replace it with a Viton o-ring from the "o-ringstore.com".

Re: Replacing rear main seal

I changed ALL my seals while it was apart. If you choose to leave the main seal alone, at least change the O-ring.
