Re: coolant service interval.?

It is not a bad one it is just hard to get to the radiator cap with the body work and fuel tank on. I would save it for the next major service when the tank is off. Coolant is an annual and is done every 4 years. If you can get to the cap OK go for it. The book has you pull the temp sensor down at the oil/water pump unit to drain (you can just pull the lower hose and get most of it out). Not an issue just be careful when you re-install it as it is NOT pipe thread and should only be tightened to 9 Nm (which is just snug).

When re-filling it helps to loosen the clamp on the top radiator cross hose to allow air to burp out. Capacity is 2.64 US quarts with a 0.63 on the overflow tank.

Re: coolant service interval.?

Do it now I did it over the winter, it's really easy with all of the body panels off. It only takes 20-30 mins to do. I didn't even bother to loosen the hose clamp like in the video's. I just ended up squeezing the hose to help it burp. Bought a gallon of 50/50 mix and ended up using around 3/4 of it if you include replacing the reservoir.

Re: coolant service interval.?

FYI....

Just replaced the fluid in my 03 LT.
Removed the water/oil pump due to an oil weep.

Noticed the refill capacity was 2.64 qts (plus amount in reservoir) in a few threads and in my Clymer manual. It also states the total capacity as 3.1 qts and .63 in reserve tank.

I put a little over 3 qts in the radiator spout during my refill.
I'm guessing about .46 qt remains in the pump area after a normal system drain.

During my next flush, I'll probably fill/drain with distilled water a only couple times.
Then the final fill, add 1.6 qts of straight coolant and top off with water.

Probably not a big deal, but it is almost a half qt of a 3 qt system that's not getting flushed.

Just a heads up.

Ken
