No Radio reception after repair.

I sent my radio to Baris for repair. When pulling it out of the holder. Looking down at it on the right side there was a tiny cable that was kind of not really plugged in. I had reception before I pulled it out. I tested today.MP3 thru 3.5 works great. Single CD great. All controls Great. No radio reception. When I put it back together. I did my best to plug that tiny little thing in. But it really doesn't stay in.Is that the antenna? Is there a remedy if it is?

Re: No Radio reception after repair.

James

The connector is on the left side opposite the big connector. Here are some shots. In the first two I show the receptacle on the radio and the second one is the plug. In the next shots are the broke plug housing still in the receptacle and the "guts" of the plug. Often these get broken but they can be re-assembled.

Just make sure the center pin is not bent in the receptacle on the radio.

Re: No Radio reception after repair.

My plug looks like the last pic. I think I somehow got it to go in.I sure hope so. I'm going out to try it again in a bit. If not. I'll be needing advice to reassemble. Thanks for all your help as always

Re: No Radio reception after repair.

Got it reassembled. And plastic plug housing has a chuck broke out of it enough to where it doesn't want to stay on the plug. But I put it on the plug end. Used some electrical tape to hold it on the connector enough. I'm sure it's plugged in now. I turned it on and same thing. Except. I could faintly hear music thru static. And when I grabbed antenna mast and hand grip. It got a little clearer, not much. So I Took apart mast. And behold a white corrosion inside. I cleaned it best i could.Especially the tip of the metal connector on the bottom, but don't think enough, but it's bout the same. Wonder if it's the certain dead zone spot in my garage where bike is parked noting the crappy reception these antennas have to start with. To cold to pull it outside. New BMW antenna? What about a tune trapper? Might help? Driving me crazy..

Make sure the pin is not bent in the receptacle in the radio. You talking about the female antenna plug on the back?

Re: No Radio reception after repair.

Yes you call it a female but it does have a center pin that is male and goes into the center female pin on the cable.

Re: No Radio reception after repair.

If you have a meter, check for continuity between your antennae mast and the base mount. You should see none. Then check for continuity between the mast and the male pin at the end of the cable. If you don't see continuity between those points there's a problem. The internal section of the mast can short to ground and ruin reception or it can corrode and in effect develop an open circuit.

Thanks John. That was it. It was bent. Needed a magnifying glass to see it. LOL. I'm getting old.

Thanks. It seems to be working. Might go with a tune trapper at some point.
