Ohlins or Hyperpro Shocks???

It's getting to that time. I just ordered a hyperpro steering damper and shocks are next. I'll be replacing the second set of stock shocks and springs. They are going on a 99 LT with 110,000 miles on her. Mostly used for daily commuting with an aggressive rider. I go two up or with a full load of camping gear regularly.

Anyone have an opinion that has used both? The Ohlin set is more expensive (almost double); worth the extra money? Should I just find a set of stockers off the ebay and spend the savings on something silly like groceries?

Re: Ohlins or Hyperpro Shocks???

If you can get a set of low mileage <20,00 miles stockers for a good price, then put Hyperpros on, you'll be happy.

That's what I did, and it made a HUGE difference (btw, took the shocks off myself, then went to Big O Tires with them, and they installed the springs). If you have 110,000 miles on your OEM they probably can't be saved with new springs.

I think you should come out here and borrow my spare set of stockers w/hyperpro
springs and see if they work for you.

Re: Ohlins or Hyperpro Shocks???

After reading all of the pros and cons about springs only vs springs & shocks and Ohlins vs Wilbers and their longevity before needing rebuilds, I decided to go through Ted's BeemerShop with a new set of Yacugar shocks. I plan to have Ted's install them while I'm up there in June on my '07. FYI, the Yacugar's take several weeks after ordering before delivery. Good luck on whichever route you take!

The only difference is I'm installing them myself. I put the rear on already and will install the front when I do the next maintenance in a couple of weeks. I can tell you without a doubt the Yacugar rear by itself is a night and day difference. I commute on mine and can feel a difference in bumps that used to really upset the bike where now I can even accelerate through them. So plush and smooth. Far superior.

+1 on the Yacugars taking several weeks. I ordered some from Ted on Feb 2nd and am still anxiously awaiting their arrival!. After extensive talks with Ted Porter I decided on the Yacugars. My stockers with 68K have seen better days.

I am very happy with my Hyperpro shocks from Klause...

I am also an aggressive rider (I prefer the term spirited rider)

The compression and rebound settings on Hyperproshocks is where it's at.

Installing new springs on stock shocks is like putting lipstick on a pig.

If you have the stockers revalved also, thats a different story.... might be a little better...

I am selling a set of Ohlins that were on my 05 LT. I am putting the bike back to stock to sell it. PM me if interested.

Re: Ohlins or Hyperpro Shocks???

I think the aftermarket shocks and springs are worth it. I'm very happy with my Ohlins. Met the Ohlins rep that Dan Kyle Racing uses (where I got mine) at the Ducati tent during MotoGP. Great guy and very knowledgeable.
