Where to buy parts - clutch service

I have several lists of the parts to be purchased for installing a new clutch plate for the LT so trying to figure out exactly what I will need when I eventually go in, but want to know where/who is the best place to buy through to save a few $$, if that's possible?
Our local stealers in Oz have a severe markup on everything, I've bought a few parts in the past from Beemerboneyard, but do they stock all the items required, and are they cheaper than the US dealers (say MaxBMW or other)? Love to hear opinions before I start ordering..

Already have a Siebenrock clutch plate, its all the other spacers and seals and washers and bolts and.... etc etc...

Also, where does one get a Viton O-ring from? I presume that's the 19x4 one usually listed as part # 11 21 1 460 456

I'll probably have to buy some quick-disconnects and things as well for my new2me 05GT.. so expect to be helping prop up the US economy with a bulk shipment. Pity our $ has dropped significantly over past 12 months... it was pretty good for a while.

Re: Where to buy parts - clutch service

Morning Hilton!

thanks for link.
Guess it would be wise to get 2 or 3 or 4 of them at that price... just in case.
I'll get them shipped to my mate in north LA who's doing the "care package" for me this time round.
cheers buddy!

Re: Where & what to buy: parts - clutch service

Trying to compile this list of things to order from the US but running out of time to do it before a trip away. I'm getting everything shipped to a mate in LA who'll pack up for me.
Having trouble working out which specific items from existing lists I MUST purchase in order to change out a clutch.. so would really appreciate some advice.
When I eventually do this I don't want to have to keep running off to the local stealers trying to source parts they may not carry on hand.

I've attached a spreadsheet that's been compiled from various sources, so if someone who's been there & done that could cast an eye over it and modify to what they'd think should be bought, would be really helpful.
The boxed section top-left are the compiled parts list I'm sorting through... its a mix of old and newer pricing (US$)at present.

cheers

Re: Where to buy parts - clutch service

Chris, my advice if you intend to keep the bike - source the shaft seals in Viton also. Probably 3 times the price of neoprene or nitrile but won't harden over time and therefore less likely to mark the shaft or leak. They are becoming standard fitment on most industrial applications where I work.

You need to purchase / change:

08 11 21 1 460 797 HEX NUT - M20X1,5
09 11 21 1 460 696 COMPRESSION RING
11 11 21 1 460 456 O-RING - 19X4
12 21 21 1 242 377 WASHERS (6pcs) - A7,4
07 21 21 1 454 417 SCREWS (6pcs)

And of course depending on their condition

01 21 21 2 333 471 CLUTCH HOUSING (pretty unlikely?)
03 21 21 7 688 214 DIAPHRAGM SPRING (more likely to be on the safe side)
04 21 21 2 332 974 PRESSURE PLATE (what condition is the original in?)
Clutch plate you have got already?
06 21 21 2 333 449 HOUSING COVER (what condition is the original in?)

Born to be wild so why not

Re: Where to buy parts - clutch service

Thanks C-A-D!

Linton, if you want I can order 2 x sets of things and we can work out shipping.
Depends on whether you want to wait to get them or not.
If I don't order this week, then it'll be 5-6 weeks before I place an order (after I get back), then a few weeks probably at least after that till I get the parts... so they may not be here till June (?)
If that doesn't bother you then happy to go that way!

Actually, if you aren't in a hurry.. might be better to wait until you tear into yours, determine exactly what you want to replace, send me a list and that way I'll order same for us both.... what think you?
No prob if you need to order faster for yourself...

Re: Where to buy parts - clutch service

OK, this is back on the agenda now I'm home again....

The LT's clutch isn't slipping when in gear, but is very sluggish taking off from full stop and will slip unless baby'd off the line, unlike the GT which is just brilliant with a low km engine/clutch...
So my list has grown to the following items to order (just for the new clutch install, when I get around to it).

... and I still need some advice on which are the correct shaft seals which I presume I should replace regardless..., and how I would get them in Viton if thats possible... I'll be ordering a O-ring 19x4 from The O-ring Store, but I'm not so good at searching through all these sizes when I don't even know the right shaft seals to order.... any engineer's assistance appreciated if you could point to the right ones I need!

Item Part Number Description Price Quanity Item Total Comments
11 21 1 460 456 Viton O-ring 19 X 4 $2.36 1 $2.36 O-ring store 4x19 V75 Viton
11 21 1 460 696 Compression Ring $4.38 1 $4.38
11 21 1 460 797 Nut M20X1.5 $8.80 1 $8.80
21 21 7 688 214 Diaphram Spring $74.82 1 $74.82
21 21 2 332 974 Pressure Plate $103.25 1 $103.25
21 21 7 670 456 Clutch Plate 1 Already have - Siebenrock
21 21 2 333 449 Clutch Hsg. Cover 1 RE-USE
21 21 1 454 417 Bolt / screw $2.00 6 $12.00
21 21 1 242 377 Clutch Washer $0.89 6 $5.34
21 21 1 451 274 Spacer Ring $3.43 1 $3.43

11 11 7 666 186 Shaft Seal (Main) $30.60 1 $30.60 Is this part correct? Where to get Viton if this is correct part?
23 12 7 705 086 Input shaft seal. $17.03 1 $17.03 Is this part correct? Where to get Viton if this is correct part?

thanks for your help, advice or re-direction guys.......

Re: Where to buy parts - clutch service

Chris,

Those are the right part numbers for both seals.

My cut on the main seal is to just use the factory unit, it rarely is the oil source and is most likely not leaking. When they do leak they can go for a long time as it is very hard for the oil from that to get into the clutch. It just slings off the housing. That pesky o-ring is the source of the oil. Viton just means it will go a lot longer before it hardens and cracks.

It would not hurt to have the transmission seal handy but if it is not leaking leave it alone, don't replace it preemptively.

Is that the "input shaft seal" for the transmission housing cover...?
23 12 7 705 086 SHAFT SEAL - 20X32X8 If so at about Au$20 I'll get it thrown in, just in case, but note your advice about not changing unless necessary.
