She's coming out of hibernation!

I'm so excited that it's going to be in the 50s today in Chicago. It's been a long cold winter and I've really, really missed riding. I think it's time to go for a few laps around the block. Oh joy!

Enjoy! Supposed to be similar here in PA tomorrow, but my driveway will be 1700' of mud so no riding for a few more weeks.

We're getting close...
I'll wait until we have a couple of good rains to wash away all of the salt and crud.

I agree. Usually by the time my driveway has fully thawed, the paved roads have had several spring baths!

Not here yet - there's a ton of salt and sand on all the roads here, in addition to a huge number of potholes... I'll be waiting just a bit longer for a decent rain first...

Channel 9 weather says possible 3-7 inches of snow mid week then 50's on Friday. Nice, huh?

Re: She's coming out of hibernation!

I couldn't stand it anymore and went for about a hour ride yesterday. The roads were clear but temp around 23. It was good to get out but not very fun when you have to really watch for pot holes.

Re: She's coming out of hibernation!

I brought my LT from home (SE Ohio) last weekend to Fort Knox, KY where I work during the week. It's parked outside my apartment here, under cover. It was 67 today; supposed to be low 70s tomorrow. I may just have to ride that beast to work for a change. First time since last fall!

That said, the bottom falls out again on Wednesday. Temps in the 30s (or less) with a real good chance of snow. As each day goes by, however, whatever cold weather we get is going to go away faster and spring has a better chance of sticking around for awhile.

Re: She's coming out of hibernation!

I've ridden nearly every weekend when it wasn't snowing this winter in upstate NY. There's salt and sand, but very little ice. Temps occasionally rose all the way into the upper teens and low twenties. Put on your gear and go...the bike doesn't seem to mind the temps.

Re: She's coming out of hibernation!

Last few days have been great in Atlanta, however couldn't get out until today due to a muscle spasm in my neck. Nothing like being in the wind after a long stretch off the bike.

Be sure to wash off that salt, It will utterly destroy the aluminum on a motorcycle. Had a friend on a bet ride all winter long, he won the bet and had to buy a new bike the next year due to all the corrosion. A lot of the adventure riders will use a spray wax all over the bike's metal and leave it on so that it protects the bike from the salt.

That's a good point. I will check for damage this spring when the weather lets up. Right now, I'm relying on the thick coating of summer dirt and bugs to keep her protected from the salt. I really should clean her up every now and then.

Your roads look pristine
I could see why you would take advantage to ride. For us in the mid-west no such opportunity. Wednesday night 6" of heavy wet snow, big melt going on today 50 degrees plus but all the stuff has not gone away. Your pictures look great with ice on the side in the background.
ride safe
