Centerstand Overhaul

I have mine apart and I'm replacing the rod and seals. The cover that the rod goes through, so the seals come out each side or are they all captured between the snap rings? I have the wiper seal out and now I need to remove the inner seal. My inner snap ring went flying as I removed it. I'll have to find another. That means another trip to town........

PS I figured it out. Now I'm on my way to town for a snap ring. Doh!

Re: Centerstand Overhaul

Here you go. Shaft wiper is retained on the outside with a circlip and aluminum ring. The shaft seal is retained on the inside behind a circlip and aluminum spacer. If you look carefully you will see the shaft seal installed WRONG on my example. The closed and of the seal goes to the top, open end goes to the piston.

Re: Centerstand Overhaul

Hi John.
Not been into my EHCS yet but I know it's going to happen one day.
Looked at your photo and just trying to figure out what's WRONG

" If you look carefully you will see the shaft seal installed WRONG on my example. The closed end of the seal goes to the top, open end goes to the piston. "

Do you mean the shaft seal ( black rubber between aluminum spacer and body ) is installed incorrectly ? Can't make out the end section detail of the seal in the photo.
Sorry for the dumb question.

Also is this where you recommend using teflon tape or a plastic sleeve to protect the seals during installation

Cheers

Re: Centerstand Overhaul

Sorry the photo is not great. The seal is a "U" shaped cup and the open part of the "U" should be facing that aluminum spacer. If you look closely in the photo the closed end of the "U" is facing the spacer. I had slapped it together for a picture shot without noticing I had it backwards. And yes that is the seal you need to protect. Although I have never tried it you could slide the circlip and spacer onto the shaft then the seal and try to drive the parts into the nose. But I think it would be a challenge to get the seal into the nose while on the shaft. I have always just installed the items into the nose then inserted the shaft.

I have included my sources and a handy ID sheet for all the seals I use. You may find it helpful to ID the items you may be able to find in the UK.
