LED SIDE SIGNALS

Was reading a thread covering someone who installed 4" LED light strips under his turn signal lenses for better visibility when whenever the lights were on. Can I safely do this except wire the LEDs to activate whenever the turn signals are on for better side visibility? I would used white LEDs and my original Amber Lenses, for the correct amber color. Thanks, Donn

Re: LED SIDE SIGNALS

It's doable but you will most likely need to add resistors to trick the electrical system in omitting a fault and getting the fast blinker. I added red LEDs under my OEM LT mirrors so those next to me can have another hint of my intention to change lanes. Looked up the formula on line, took a trip to Radio Shack and soldered directly into the turn signal wires to work. I was considering another set to help with on coming traffic so let me know how this turns out for you.

Re: LED SIDE SIGNALS

If you just add the LEDs in parallel to the original bulbs (and keep the bulbs) you need do nothing more.

Re: LED SIDE SIGNALS

Actually there is a lot of space in the front turn signal housing for LEDs. I have put a strip of 5050s in the reflectors on the saddle bags. So you could put more and larger LEDs in the front. If you connect the positive lead to any ignition activated hot and the negative to the hot lead of the stock signal bulb the LEDs will act as running lights normally and then wig wag turn signals.
