Re: New owner - key question - 2009 LT

No. I just had another one made from a blank I got from the dealer for about $14. It's steel, so you can't take it to Home Depot or Lowe's to get cut as their equipment can't hack it....

No need. No one steals these things.

Re: New owner - key question - 2009 LT

I found blanks on ebay for $6.00 that are brass like a normal key and can be cut at any locksmith. $12.00 for 5 of them.

Your local key shop can sell you blanks and cut the keys for about $3 per. I had several made and they each worked fine.

Re: New owner - key question - 2009 LT

I've bought keys from the dealer at $20.00+ each, only to discover that no one will cut them as they are made of steel. Then I bought a set of four off eBay from some place in CA that are made from the stuff normal keys are made of, and any locksmith will be willing to cut for $2.00 each. The ones I got off eBay are slightly thinner that the stock keys and don't have the BMW logo on them, but work just fine and look nearly identical to the nice BMW key.

They are the same as some BMW auto blanks that any locksmith shop will have.

Re: New owner - key question - 2009 LT

I've had some issues with the Chinese key blanks. Although they appear the same as the genuine BMW blanks they didn't work. They just wouldn't cut properly. Bought genuine BMW blanks off eBay and they worked fine.
