Rear Suspension Removal

I've decided to remove the rear strut and either replace it or have it rebuilt. It doesn't seem too difficult but I have a question for anyone who has done this; Is it necessary to remove everything the manual says is required, such as the fuel tank? If anyone has done this and knows of any shortcuts please let me know. Thanks.

Re: Rear Suspension Removal

If you look closely at the picture in the manual the seat frame and fuel tank are still in place where they show the strut removal. I never removed the tank and had no issues. It does make access to the top bolt easier but not sure of the trade off. When I first installed my Ohlins I was in the middle of a 24 K anyway and had the tank off, but not necessary.

What year, how many miles, what symptoms. No need to remove tank for rear shock. Depending on your answers you may only need to replace the springs.

Re: Rear Suspension Removal

Did mine without removing the tank. The only issue was getting the top bolt out- had to gently tap on it.
