Leaving For Branson Area

My wife and I are leaving for the Branson Mo. area for a few days today and we are spending most of our time riding the Northern Arkansas area. I was looking for roads to ride that some of you might be able to recommend.I have been told that 123 south of Harrison is a great road but was looking for others in the area for day trips.

Thanks,

Thanks,
South outta Branson on 65, time it for a lunch break at *Lamberts Home of the Throwed Rolls* then east to pick up MO 125 south to catch the small ferry across Bull Shoals lake. You can stay by the bike for the short float across. Continue south to AR 62, then head west thru Eureka Springs over to Pea Ridge Military Park. Then into Rogers and if you wanna, go west outta Rogers over to 71 and north a bit to visit Bentonville BMW (meet their parts lady, Denise). Been many moons since I've been, so verify this routing on a paper map. Have a great trip and enjoy the 'stop and smell the roses' attractions!

Thanks Dick ,this is going to be a nice laid back trip and we plan on many stops to enjoy the view and food. Plus some nice twisty roads dont hurt either.

Re: Leaving For Branson Area

I made a trip to Northern Arkansas earlier this year with some friends. Most of our riding was Fairfield Bay, Ar. to Harrison. Watch you fuel and plan accordingly not much available off of Hwy. 65, unless you stop in a major town. Hwy 7 from Dover to Sand Gap is fast sweepers. Hwy 123 from Harrison to Sand Gap (my favorite) has lots of twisties. Hwy 374 just south of Jasper has some 10 mph switchbacks, (four I think). Hwy 7 south from Jasper to Hwy 16 to Sand Gap great ride.

We only did a small portion of the area in our three days of riding, lots of great roads to ride, next trip will have to be from Harrison west. Also watch for deer, lots of deer hanging out by the roadsides. I didn't have a problem but my friend had a close call, he hit the rear leg of a deer with his front tire coming around a curve, no damage to bike or deer.

If you have time try to pick up a Butler Map of the Ozarks; great map to have but also nice to have a regular road map or GPS for full road information. Gateway BMW in St. Louis sells Butler maps.

Have a great ride, probably be busy with traffic if you're trying to time with the fall colors.

Ride the Pig Eye Trail between Fayetteville and Ozark, AR. A word of caution: those 10 mph signs for the curves mean 10 mph. They have negative slopes on them.

If you are in the area, one of my favorites is the Ozark Folk Village in Mountain View Arkansas. Good roads and a great park.

Re: Leaving For Branson Area

We live in Mountain Home AR and these are great roads. You picked a bad weekend though. Bikes blues and BBQ rally is in Fayetteville this weekend. This rally is second only to Sturgis with sometimes as many as 300,000 crazy HD riders. I have seen so many horrible accidents during this weekend. I'm a physician. It's the one weekend a year we don't ride. You may be better off staying in Southern MO. Great roads there too. PM me if you are in coming to Mtn Home area and we would be happy to have you drop by our house and I can give you some suggestions.

Re: Leaving For Branson Area

I want to thank everyone for the recommendations we had 3 great days of riding in Arkansas and southern Missouri. Rained on us all day Friday but still rode 7 hours. The 10 mph switchbacks on south 123 were a lot of fun honestly cant complain about any route we took they were all challenging and fun.

Thanks,
Steve
