Thumbs down I suck. First tip over in 170K

Well, if you don't count the time I got high centered on a rock on a two track or blown over by a 70mph gust.

Just plain inattention: Pulled into a gas station with the girlfriend, dog and trailer and ended up rubbing the front tire on a concrete gas fill "riser". Zero miles per hour and laid it down gently. No damage. I STILL suck.

I blamed it (of course) on a pulled quad on my right leg (really) and the damned extended passenger foot peg getting in my way. The girlfriend was not impressed with my lame excuse or lack of skills. She DID ride with me for another 2K...

I STILL suck!

Is it time? Should I trike it?

Never mind the tip-over. I'm more interested in where the dog rides. That must be some calm canine. How long to train him/her to ride with you?

Since a 6 week old pup - just had his 15th birthday party on June 24.

There's a visco elastic bed underneath him, ventilated screen on three sides - he can see out the front and enjoys it, and a waterproof cover made with clear thick vinyl to keep him happy when it gets hot or cold. The bed can be soaked with water as a swamp cooler when it gets really hot. He gets frequent potty/water breaks along with his Dad.

He has over 100K in his log book on motorcycles - among other adventures.

Poodles are indeed chick magnets and a REAL man's dog.

Re: I suck. First tip over in 170K

My son tipped over at the gas station one day and asked of me "what happened?" to which I replied....... "well son, I think you forgot to put your foot down". After some thought, I realized his pant-leg probably caught on the foot-peg. So you have at least a partial good explanation. I hope you make it another 170,000 without another one.

No worries, Ron. The big girl has a way of humbling us. Remember back on all the tip over reports and your pride thinking "what an unskilled Dufus!" Welcome to the club, Dufus! We're all in this together.

Had my first tip over 4 weeks ago or so. Same thing, not paying attention at a gas station, zero mph... I've only got about 75K on this bike though...

I was only down for about 30 seconds or so - two bystanders and the gf picked it up while I was still on board. This is only the second time with the dog on board so I guess he's getting used to it.

After 2300 miles and returning home (with a final drive failure 5 miles from my driveway) I asked the gf if she was ready for another trip - and she said she would buy the airline tickets if I pilot the bike. Next stop: Patagonia, South America on a rented wet head GS this spring.

I guess the view of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison sealed the deal - 6 miles in the rain on a dirt road that was as slippery as snot. If I tipped it over there I would NEVER have been able to get it upright again. It's the only time I can remember having the front and rear wheels of the LT sliding at the same time. I really think the trailer kept me from going down since it somewhat stabilized the rear of the bike - I was working the handlebars like Mert Lawill on the flat track!

Re: I suck. First tip over in 170K

There are two types of LT riders: 1) Those that HAVE dropped it, 2) Those that WILL drop it. I didn't drop my '02 unless it counts when I was trying to put it on my lift by myself and it laid on its side on the lift. I was able to see what I was doing when I swapped out the low beam bulb. I was able to slide it over and off the lift almost upright, then I rolled it back away from the lift and put the kickstand down.

When I was pulling into a gas station with my '05 I tried to avoid a wet spot while starring at it. The bike followed my eyes. I laughed when I landed because of embarrassment and because I wasn't hurt. (I've felt fragile since I got hit on my '02LT) Two guys helped me pick it up. One of the guys said his boss had the same bike. He worked at a BMW car dealership. Someone was selling pins and stickers to "celebrate" such an event. I don't remember what the pin said but the sticker said something like, "If you can read this, stop laughing and help me pick up my bike". If I knew where they are I would send them to you. I try not to ask my wife to do too many things because she's at the end of her rope caring for my paralyzed body the past 5 years. Plus she just turned 60.

That canyon is one of my favorites because it seems to change colors as the sun angle changes through the day. Simply breathtaking!
