Riding through California parks

Hi, any suggestions for good riding getting thru Yosemite kings canyon and sequoia, heading east to utah when done? Thanks. Riding tomorrow. I know there's probably better roads but the parks are becoming a bucket list thing.

Re: Riding through California parks

There aren't that many roads in any of these parks, I'm in them every year, so just do the usual tourist routes, you'll be amazed. Yosemite is the best hands down, Sequoia has the giant trees in one area, and don't miss Morro Rock, a good stop. Kings Canyon is OK too. I would suggest doing Sequoia, Kings Canyon, then Yosemite, or reverse order, but be sure to hit the Whoanellie Deli east of Yosemite for a great breakfast or lunch before or after your visit, it's east of Tioga Pass. Have fun! California has more cool sights than any other state, so you just have to pick a few and enjoy, then come back and do some others.

Try Sonora Pass on the 108 while you're there. Not too far out of the way. It's 26% grade!!!! Yup, I typed that correctly. Did it last year about this time.

Re: Riding through California parks

You may not be able to go through Yosemite on Hwy. 120 due to the large fire on the western edge of the Park. Tioga Road (Hwy. 120) was closed from the entrance to Tuolomne Meadows. Check the CADOT website for latest update. You can still enter the Park from the south, Hwy 41 or the west, Hwy 140, you just can't get across the Park to Hwy. 395 where the Whoanellie Deli is just west of Lee Vining on 120 at the Mobil gas station.

Great thing about riding in California is the ability to split lanes.

Re: Riding through California parks

Just riding along Hwy 49 which runs on the western side of the Sierra's is quite a nice ride good smooth road. Hwy 4 to Calaveras Big Trees to 88 through Tahoe would be nice also. Slower road but Great sceanery.

Just some ideas.

Re: Riding through California parks

Thank you all.
This site is incredible!
Did Alturas 299 to 89 through lassen down past Tahoe, then to pollock pines. Other than some congestion at Tahoe, great ride. I was told I could go back towards 88 on Mormon emigrant trail. Probably do that then 4 to 49.
Thanks again.

Re: Riding through California parks

Tioga Pass Road (CA 120) opened today, the 14th, so you can go from through Yosemite. Hope its not too late for this info.

Re: Riding through California parks

Thanks. Yosemite was eerie, sad yet fascinating. Something you don't see everyday... Reminds me of Yellowstone in 88. It came back. Thanks for advice
