Yes! The obligatory tip over finally happened.

Well it happened, and I knew it would only because you fine folks posted it. Two weeks into my first LT (2002) ownership I dumped her while trying to use the center stand.

She started to go over and after a huge tug it felt like she was gonna be uprighted, but mysteriously she started to fall again. As the sensation of tearing muscle and tendons creeped into my head, the fatal "release" signal was sent to my hands and away she went.

I waited for the sickening sound of plastic/glass/metal all splintering at the same time. You know, y'all have heard it before. But nothing! No loud crashing sounds, nothing broken. Not even a scuff on the crash bar cover or the saddlebag chrome.

Man was I one happy camper. Now my fear of a tip over is gone and overall I'm a whole lot more relaxed.

Y'all (indirectly) told me it was gonna happen, it did, and now I'm all better.

Let's ride!!!

Yes, it happens to us all.... I thought "not me" for years - until about a month ago!

Would have been "no harm at all" for me, except my left J-Peg was open, so it got bent. Easy enough fix though.

We're both members of this exclusive club now!

Yup, happened to me couple of days ago. Pulled into the Shell station and the cement was on an angle going up to the pump. Put the side stand down and and over she went! Not a scratch or anything! The one good thing BMW did was designed for tip overs. That was number 9 for me, I think, in the 13 months I've been riding. Embarrassing but I got over it! LoL

Doesn't take much to tip these bikes over. I had one fall that was due to a Big Gulp sitting in the cup holder. True Story - I ride by the hotel lobby then look over my shoulder wondering if the bike will fit by the front door. Next thing I know I'm going over on the left side. Never would have happened if the weight of that 64oz drink had not pulled me over.

I won one of those pins at the silent auction in Duluth. Problem is, I have no idea where it is. I should have put it on my jacket right then!

Edit: it took some digging but I just found my DA pin. I had put it in my sock drawer for safe keeping.

Does anybody that has tipped have the bigger foot on the side stand? I haven't come close to dropping but put one on because the foot looks to small.

Re: Yes! The obligatory tip over finally happened.

Joined the club late last year. Cracked up the black wing tip on the right side so there went $35 +shipping. Now I need to drop it the other way so both the wing tips look new.

I'm editing the above typos as you read this.

I put one on my 2000 model at the national in Sedalia. It lasted about 3 days till I drug it off in Arkansas corners. I went back and found it in the middle of a corner. Come to find out there are two different side stands for the LT with the same part # supposedly. I was refunded my purchase price but have not replaced it. When I get one of those round-to-its I will weld a plate on the existing foot to enlarge it. That way it wont change my lean angle as much as the aluminum one.
