BMW Badge on Top Case Lid

Hi! I'm getting ready to have my '99 LT painted since I've abused the poor thing to the point where it's embarrassing to drive around. It's just as well since I'm not a fan of the original champagne color. So, I've stripped all of the plastic parts and disassembled them into their component pieces. But I'm stumped by the top case lid. I can't figure out how to get the liner out. On the other hand, do I really need to? The only thing that's still in the way of a seamless paint job is the BMW badge on the back. I'd rather take it off than mask it. Do I need to remove the lid liner to remove the badge?

Thanks!!
Andy

Re: BMW Badge on Top Case Lid

The badge most likely is held on with some type of double sided adhesive. Best way to remove it is to use fishing line to cut through it. If the badge is still in good shape you can clean the back of all the adhesive and reuse it by going to the auto parts store and buying 3M double sided tape. I did this when I removed and reinstalled the BMW badges on my RT's bodywork.

Azccj- thank you. The idea to use fishing line to cut through double sided foam tape is pure genius!

So you haven't removed the top case yet, the liner has some plastic tabs by the pins, one at each pin, just bend slightly with a screw driver and the liner will lift out, the liner does have velcro holding it also.
