Re: Odyssey PC680

Um, yeah many thousands of us have preferred the 680 over the years. My current one is 8 years old and still going great. I'm replacing it for $100.00 since I'm heading out on tour soon - just to be proactive.

You should be able to bring it back to a full service life by charging it properly, then keeping it on a quality trickle charger. Don't assume it is toast. It can withstand multiple deep discharges.

There must be dozens of previous threads on the 680....

Re: Odyssey PC680

Try discharging it and then charging it with battery charger.

One night I didn't turn the switch all the way to off, not past there to kill batt with parking lite.

Over night it was fully drained. I put a reg battery charger on it for an hour or so, then charging at lower rate to full charge.

worked fine, even tuned my bike over when temps were below 30sF.

If you are using the cig lighter jack make sure there isn't any corrosion inside of it

I use "roach-clips" and clamp on the batt terminals.

Re: Odyssey PC680

My battery did the same as yours, and after just over a year it wouldn't hold a charge while on my way to CCR.
I made a slight detour and stopped in BMW of San Jose and got a new one. They had a no sales tax day! Still around $170 at the door.
Took almost 2 hours to install as the Odyssey had horizontal post mounts and I have a lot of add-ons on both + and - terminals and had to be creative with what I had with me tool wise.
My previous BMW battery did last over 6 years.

Unhappy Re: Odyssey PC680

I purchased a new odyssey battery from a US source and it seemed great at first but after about a year it did not keep a charge very long. If I left it sit in the bike for more than 2 weeks it would barely turn the motor over. I was really disappointed as there was so much hype about how good these batteries are....Ordered a different agm battery and now and this battery works fine.

Re: Odyssey PC680

The battery is a great one - trash the battery tender I have had two of them and they jut do
not do the job for ME. Try an Optimate ( http://www.tecmate.com/) that in my opinion is he
best charger you can buy for the money!!

One of their models does both the LT (old electrical system) and the new tech electrical
systems (Canbus). I have a K1300GT and needed a Optimate 4!!

The charger also desulfates the battery:

Saves the battery you thought was dead! OptiMate 4ís proven multi stage desulfation
program saves neglected batteries (as low as 0.5V) other chargers can't

Good luck on you r battery woes!!

Used to hold a joint, especially the last part of it which burns ur fingers if u try and smoke it down. but end of joint looked like a roach to many city folk.Spring loaded jaws commonly used in electrical work.

rich hippies bought medical instruments that locked onto the joint.

Re: Odyssey PC680

The 680 IS used for the LT. No problem. Mine is on the 2nd year and spins the engine fast. Had a gel bmw battery with the smart charger. Junk.. IMHO. Tried the Smart Charger on my new 680 a couple of years ago. Wrong charger for the battery. Great for a gel battery but note dry cell. I purchased the Odessey charger and never have had a problem. When the time comes, I will replace the Odessey 680 with another one.

Re: Odyssey PC680

You have to make sure your charger shuts off when it senses it is charged and then will turn back on only when the voltage drops below a certain level. It is very confusing when buying chargers because of the way they are worded. A trickle charger or one that constantly charges even at a low charge rate will cook the battery over time. I had my orig battery for 6 years and changed it because it was old but still worked and replaced with PC680 and it is great. Key to battery longevity is keep it on a good tender.

That's a hell of a price on that! Have you bought one from them? Are they a reputable outfit?

+1 on the Odyssey charger. Had the same problem with a cheap tender by killing a new battery. Better solution is to ride her everyday. Only use the charger now when away for more than a few days.

They certainly have the best prices, but I can't get anyone to answer the phone. Always makes me leery when there's no one to answer questions.
