another look at Metzler vs Storm 2 from $ standpoint

I was reading through the thread on the debate on above tires. On my 99 I have only used the 880's and get 10K miles on rear and 20K + on front. So would change at 2 rear to one front cycles.

Looked up tire pricing at Pete's superbike.com This is the best pricing on bike tires that I have ever found from a Canadian distributor and have bought tires for the LT and my C10. (changed rear on LT at there shop.....30.00..........15min elapsed time from on hoist to off hoist )

All to say the storm2 front is 123.95 and rear 148.95= 272.90
880's = front 133.95 and rear 178.95 = 312.90 =40.00

At 40.00 the $ factor is really a moot point.

If I still have my LT at next tire change, I will try the Storm2's

Good analisis but you will not get 10 K and 20 K out of the Storms. Based on your 880 mileage I would guestimate the rear gone in 6 K or less and the front gone in 10 k or less. But you will stick to the road like gule!

ME 880 front and Bridgestone BT020R rear will get nearly the same number of miles and you can replace them together. Make sure you get the LT reinforced bias-belted BT020R. Good combination for grip and wear.

Reports are the Storm on the front is sitll sometimes problematic.

I love the Storm for a back tire. (the Storm2 was grippier than the Storm3).
You can use any other radial front tire with the Storm installed on the back. I have run a Michelin PR2 and am now trying a Continental ContiMotion. Both are good, smooth, grippy, etc.

Tried the Storms on my bike and liked the grip but last weekend on the way home the bike started shaking,checked the tyres and the rear had no tread on the right side for about one third of the tyre,worn right down,had 35 klm to go so we rode slowly and got home and found the tread was gone all the way round the tyre on the right ,the centre and left had plenty of tread.Can't add up $ wise when you have to change half worn tyres,have ordered Metzelers.

After actually getting a flat with the reinforced 880 I wont be using any other rear. It actually held the bike up till I could get off the road.

Re: another look at Metzler vs Storm 2 from $ standpoint

I just put on two new Meztelers. I bought the bike in mid April with a little over 11k on it about 2k on tires (Metz) I have put on 7k+ on bike so tires were bad at 9k. front was scalloped and rear had 2 spots of ply showing and plenty more coming. I thought I would get more but tech said "that's about avg". So I am quite happy I caught it time...

I am personally sold on the Avons. I get anywhere between 8000-10000 on the rear and about 14-15k on the front. Like John Z says... "you will stick to the road like GULE" gotta love the misspell!

Yes, that's the exact reason the REINF spec was developed for the LT, and the reason why I won't stray from that spec. Consequences not worth the risk in my opinion, especially when 2-up and fully loaded with gear. But I will be going with the BS BT020 REINF on the rear with the ME880 on the front next time. By the way, has anyone ever weighed an ME880 and a BT020, they are way different, the Metz is heaps heavier, like about 4 1/2 lbs ! Unsprung weight too.

I am about 1200 miles into my new combo ME front BT rear. So far the only difference is the tire temp two up. I am seeing higher temps on the BT compared to the ME but nothing that would cause a concern. Also the max ( load @) cold pressure on the BT is 48 psi and the ME is 50 psi. Will watch it on the way to CCR.
