LT gas gauge adjustment

IS there a proper way to adjust the accuracy of the Fuel gauge? when I have used 3 gallons I am at the 1/4 tank left mark, and when I fill the tank to about 1.5" from the gas fill hole it shows that I am 1/8th from full.

I just would like a more accurate representation of the fuel level instead of having the low fuel light go off at a little under a 1/2 a tank.

Currently riding a 2003 K1200LTC

Re: LT gas gauge adjustment

The dealer has to re-calibrate the gauge. I believe that they will drain out the fuel and install 1 gallon then calibrate it.
I do not know if the gs-911 tool will perform the calibration.

Re: LT gas gauge adjustment

You can calibrate the low fuel light and set it anywhere you want. Drain the tank and then add one gallon (or what ever you want). Just have the exact amount of fuel in the tank you want it to indicate. Turn on the key and short pin 3 to pin 4 on the diagnostic connector for a few seconds until the low fuel light starts flashing and when it stops flashing it is set.

The only way to get a full tank indication is to fill the tank on the side stand and get the fuel right up to the bottom of the filler tube. You cannot fully fill the tank on the center stand.

John, forgive my ignorance, but where is the diagnostic plug located ? Handy to know.

It's under the rear seat, at the back, a little off center to the right. From John's photo you can see it is round and it will have a cap on the end. It is the only one back there that only has wires going to it from one side. HTH
