Need both tires,,looking for idea;s and options

I have been running Metzeler's the Marathon M 88 in the rear and the Roadtec Z in the front,, I have 6800 on the pair,, and they have less than 1 k left. The Metzeler's are getting hard to find for the LT.. anyone riding on something they really like ?

Re: Need both tires,,looking for idea;s and options

Don't know if this helps or not, but after watching and reading for some time, it seems like the most liked tire set of choice on this forum for the K1200LT is an ME880 on the front and a Bridgestone BT020 for the rear. Some like the Bridgies front and rear. I'll be trying out a pair of Bridgies next change on my '05 because both will need it, and I'd like a bit more grip than the Metz offers across tar snakes and in the wet (I currently run a pair of Metz ME880s).

Hope this helps.

For the '99-'03 bikes- Avon Storms are another option.

They have worked for me quite well, although I know others do not agree.

BT020 F/R from swmototires.com, free shipping. I get them installed locally as needed.
I get almost 6k from the front and around 10K from the rear.
I haven't tried the Metz Front/BT020 rear so I cannot comment.

I swear by the Avon Storm 2's! It is the first tire I ever wore to the edge!

Re: Need both tires,,looking for idea;s and options

I've been running Metzler 880s. I tried the Avons. The first front tire wore out on one side only. The second set ended with a flat at less than 1,000 miles and they wouldn't honor their warranty so I you Avon people would like an almost brand new front tire let me know. I went back to the Metzlers.

Re: Need both tires,,looking for idea;s and options

Been running the metzlers on front and rear, recently put a bridgestone on the rear with a metz front, now I get the tank slapper front end wobble below 45mph, don't know whats up with that, but tire change is the only difference, didn't experience that with the metz on the back.

It just sounds like that you might need them rebalanced;or take the weights back off and put some Tire Beads in them.I had brother that had a issue like that on his Yammy it worked for him .(The bead Thing)

I have gotten as much as 18K on a ME 880 a few years back. Nowadays I get around 12K (rear) which is still pretty good. But here's the thing they are a Jekyll and Hyde kinda tire - on dry pavement with proper inflation they truly are marathon tires but with just a little bit of water it's Oh Crap time as they're want to do the electric slide. For a lot of years I just put up with it because it's saving me money on tire changes. But after some recent really close calls at relative low speeds I'm going to the ME front/Bridge rear setup.

Re: Need both tires,,looking for idea;s and options

Fort Worth BMW always has 880's on the shelf, and at good prices.
I get about 11K out of a rear tire and 15k from the front.
