Re: Rebuilds Steering Damper Who?

So do we have instructions (for those of us willing to do that ourselves) of rebuilding it.

Commercial adds should be clearly presented as such. Somehow not so familiar to a contributing in a forum and offering to to do something against money instead of helping by giving advice how to do it. The price is modest compared to a price of new - admit that. Still the idea of this forum (I hope) is to help each others - not cash.

Re: Rebuilds Steering Damper Who?

This is copied from post # 15 of a thread titled "steering damper help needed" (op was ltlfeat) Apr 10, 2012. Should help a little.

( I don't believe that the Steering damper does very much on the LT unless you have mechanical problems,....
or you like to ride without your hands on the grips. I don't recommend either.
When I got my LT, the damper had leaked, and wasn't working so much...So...
I performed a "re-seal & re-service" with info from here =
http://www.bmwlt.net/ubbthreads/sho...d&sb=5&o=0&vc=1
And here =

I Got my parts from Metric Seals Inc. Part # QHWA10-20-7/8.5 (S 10x20x7/8.5)
$ 21.50 each + shipping.
http://www.metric-seals.com/
I first used 10 W fork oil, but I found it to make the damper go to "stiff" mode too easily.
So....I did the service over, this time using 5 W fork oil to very good effect !
It still leaks some, so I just keep it wiped down.
Good luck to you ! )

Re: Rebuilds Steering Damper Who?

I still looking for someone to rebuild my steering damper. Cochinosucio did not answer my PM. Is there a dealer that may offer the service or any ideas?

Re: Rebuilds Steering Damper Who?

Jimbo,

If you can get the seals, and want to venture out to the McKinney/Allen corridor, I am sure we can get it done fairly easily. Least I can do for you after all you have done for me.

I actually have a rebuilt one that I can swap with yours and then rebuild it another time if you are short on time. Actually takes longer to de/re-install than it does to rebuild.
