Oh No ! Not Yet

Still can't get out.
Today I wanted to ride and had too many stumbling blocks to get by.
I looked at the street maybe
Cleaned the driveway no problem
Opened the garage door then I realized impossible
Wish I had Saddleman studded tires.
ride safe

So far so good. The big storm that was on it's way through the midwest has missed Holland. Now if my street was ice free and a little warmer...... I could ride.

Well.... for ONCE I'm down South during winter where it's nice and warm. Usually I'm in Ohio, and I'm one of you guys with all the snow and ice to keep me from riding. I'm down here in New Orleans for a long-term project. Can I say it was 75 and sunny today... and yes - I went out for a ride after work.

I, uh, had the a/c on yesterday. Sorry.... All you northerners hang in there - it gets better!

Bill, if you could ride any time you please, all year long like the folks in TX & FL then you probably would't appreciate it as much.

OK just took a time out.
That is my second stint with a shovel. As you can see from the pictures the bike is right at the door the snow blower is somewhere in the back of everything else, hope not to see it until next winter.
TX and FL, you guys have some empathy

When I moved to Texas almost 30 years ago, they told me if I do not like the weather, stick around for a few minutes and it will change. I remember one year we had now one day and 70's the next.

Nothing like SoCal where the weather forecasting is so easy that the TV folks are often referred to as "Weather Models" because they are (seemingly) chosen for appearance and cup size rather than accreditation and experience.. Does not take much to say "The weather for the next 360 days is cool and overcast in the morning, with the haze burning off around lunch time and temps getting into 70s or 80s by early afternoon."

I just came over all the way from Germany to have a nice ride across Florida and go the bad Season out of the way and what did I? I laid Her down. Some scratches on the Chrome trim a swollen foot but otherwise no problem.
But I can feel with you we have had also a good load of this white stuff this year. Couldn't ride since November.

I needed a little delay, gotta change oil before riding gets daily anyway. I just hit that mileage last week and if weather gets nice I don't think a hundred mile ride will do.

Calling for 49 here in PA on Saturday and a whopping 57 on Sunday! Unfortunately, the frost has yet to exit the ground so my driveway will be a muddy mess this weekend so no LT excursion just yet.

I had an extended phone conversation with my wife this morning. She is back in Ohio holding down the fort while I'm "struggling" to understand what to do with consistent warm weather and sunshine in March. They had lots of snow and ice up there last night; lights flickered on and off today as though we were going to have a power outage. It was all I could do to keep from telling her it was 60s and sunny again today. But I did.

On Sunday (70s and sunny) I'll ride over to Gulf Shores, AL to say howdy to 3 sets of neighbors who are spending the winter on the Gulf Coast in their motor homes.

Re: Oh No ! Not Yet

Living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, one gets plenty of snow. Everything is beautiful. Once the snow leaves, one truly appreciates riding that much more. Frequently, my wife and I ride in lower 30 degree weather but then we dress for it. If we had to wait for perfect weather to ride in, we wouldn't get much riding in. My brother, who lives in Atlanta, Georgia freezes if the temps are lower than 60. Vince Lombarde once said and I quote,"When the going gets tough, the tough get going". When it's snowing, exercise so you can last longer in the saddle when the weather does get better.

That is a real struggle
What a difficult decision to make. I would prefer resolving that situation than an ice cream cone on a hot summer day. Well guess you deserve a break since you have probably put up with this foolishness longer than me. You could always ride back home and get rid of the snow with all that free sunshine in March

For sure not accustomed looks daunting but that's typical winter for us when we are not spared. Are you out of it as yet. I could see my driveway and road again but refuse to clear the garage door. Let the weekend thaw do its thing.

Re: Oh No ! Not Yet

If I had to pick anywhere to live in the US... the last 2 choices for me would be Chicago... and California. I'd like to move to Denver, NC. Close enough to the mountains, close enough to Charlotte.... warm weather for the most part. I'd be loving it.

Re: Oh No ! Not Yet

I prefer the cold. Not necessarily snow but love the cold temps. The absolute LAST 3 places I would ever want to live in again or even visit for that matter, are the Phoenix, AZ area (6 years), Southern CA (1year), and Las Vegas, NV (6 mos.). Combined, these three cities equal the worst 25 years of my life. Probably explains why I hate the heat.

Chicago? I see Chicago through rose colored glasses. I worked 4 years for a division of a Fortune 100 company based in Chicago. Great food, great parties, great fun. I could live there but would wilt in the summer heat and humidity. I would probably have to find season tickets to the Cubs in order to survive.

The trick with living in Chicago would be to live and work in the Hancock Tower so no need to go outside unless you need to. Like say to sail on the lake, eat pizza, etc.

Hahaha. I'll take the money spent to live in Hancock tower, quit working and live on my bike in my north face tent for a few years and travel the world. I'd rather avoid a corrupt city.

Wow, that is one sad photo. I'll bet your LT is making little whimpering sounds (or maybe its owner is...). Hope those snow drifts go away real soon.

Re: Oh No ! Not Yet

The forecast is looking real good for my planned ride on Saturday. A group of us will be leaving Warner Robins, in middle GA, heading south to Daytona for Bikeweek. True, it does get very hot in the summer around here, but the riding is great the rest of the year!
With my gerbings heated jacket and a rain suit on board I can venture out for a ride most anytime ...I'll have to reserve my northern trips for the summer.

Here, it was 65 degrees at 7:45 a.m. at the beginning of the second week of March. What in the world happened to Spring? I'm wondering if it's going to be a toasty summer?

Yeah I intend to visit CA but not with the intent of being there permanently. You probably heard the song "All my ex's live in TX" well I don't have any ex's but right now my wife lives with me in Chicago Lots of

I considered moving to Cali, but housing prices are outrageous. The area around Santa Clara where I'd work is crowded, too.
