BC-3 comm dead?

I have a 2002 LTE with the BC-3 Communication system. It has the cassette player and the CD changer in the right saddlebag. Radio works fine externally in front and back speakers. Sound will not switch to helmet/intercom when H/S button is pressed. Also cb shows no power. Had Tupperware off this morning and see no connection problems. Also checked all in line fuses under the seat and they look fine. Never used intercom before. Just got helmets with J&m headsets. A couple of years ago, I know the h/s switch worked because I pressed it by accident. I did remove the theft system a few years ago and solderd some wires under the passenger seat. Could this have caused intercom to not have power.
I also pulled the battery to look for any leads that are not hooked to the positive post but everything looks fine. Why would intercom and cb be dead?? I did try this with the bike running

Re: BC-3 comm dead?

I have the same bike with the same problem, I'd bet there is a plug pulled loose that feeds power to the comm system. At least that's what I'm betting on. Have my bike in storage at the moment so won't get to check it out for awhile.

I my case the system probably worked correctly when/after I replaced the clutch but I was having a problem with the radio not running when it ignition was on ( I was not aware of the H/S switch at the time), pulled the wiring, couldn't find anything and reinstalled it along a different route and then had radio/CD/Tape with ignition on or off regardless of the H/S switch setting. So I'm pretty sure it's a bad wire or connector.

Re: BC-3 comm dead?

Thanks for your reply, please keep me informed if you find the problem. I took the radio stingray plastic off the bike and opened up the comm cover on the back. One bolt and about six screws to open. Anyway, it appears very little servicable items in the box. Mainly, a large multiple pin connector. Looks like very little to go wrong. The only item I can think of internally is the h/s switch itself. On the other hand, I think the problem is before the comm unit since the cb also has no power. I'll keep thinking and looking. Really don't want to buy an aftermarket unit when the bike has a built in unit. May have to contact J&m since they produced this unit for BMW.

Re: BC-3 comm dead?

Did a little more thinking and research. Fuse 8 in the center fuse box controls the radio. The radio does indeed die when I pull this fuse. The question I have is according to the repair manual, there is a 10 amp fuse behind the radio/cassette player. The radio and cassette both work on my bike but is it possible that this fuse may control the communications and cb circuit? Anybody know?? I really don't want to dig that deep if I'm barking up the wrong tree. Thanks.
