Speed

Maybe this has been brought up before but I am wondering how fast you have taken your LT? For me it is 115 with the wife and a weeks worth of gear, on the 160 near Four Corners.

Re: Speed

123 ( over 135 on the speedometer ) on my gps on my 04LT. It took over a mile at wide open throttle to go from 122 to 123. I was loaded at around 1200lbs. I didn't think it would go another mile per hour faster & I was coming up on traffic so I rolled off the throttle.

However fast we were going when I followed you up 89, never that fast before or since and probably never again

I guess I'm just pokey but truth be told I was scared too witless to even glance at the speedo. I know my comfort zone and stay in it, but every once in a while I get a wild streak if I see an open stretch of road and take her up to 80 (indicated) - everything smooths out at that speed, the suspension floats, everything is stable, airflow is good and the engine gets quiet and no vibrations.

It almost makes me wish I had the attachments to run around at that speed all the time

115 mph on my '05 LT the first year I had it, on a long straight stretch of country road. If a deer had jumped out it would have been interesting. I'd like to take it to a track some time to go fast, more safely.

Re: Speed

Well they do say that confession is good for the soul. So ................ I've followed this posting for a couple of days without responding because I couldn't remember how fast I have had my LT. Just wondering, I checked my GPS today and it shows a top speed of 109 that was set on Pond River Levee in Hopkins County KY. I don't remember what the speedometer showed that night and I don't know how much faster it would have gone. I do know that my wife was not favorably impressed because she made that clear with a series of kidney punches. I enjoyed it though - the speed not the punches. As a recovering speed addict, I try not to do that kind of stuff so I will take the word of others as to how fast my LT might really go.

134 solo on the 02. 130 solo on the 07. Both confirmed by GPS. 125 with W on board - she said it was ok, but running the twisties (occasionally dragging something metal) 'is much more fun. SURE GLAD I TRUST YOU!!'

Got a pink piece of paper, signed by a highway patrolman, that said I was doing 111 mph as witnessed by his radar unit.

Cost a whole lot of money for first a liar, I mean lawyer, then the fine. They were going to toss me in the jail house over that incident.

Was not on my LT by the way.........

94 K100LT, on the track between classic bike heats, 128 from the track speed trap on the back streach. Across Montana, 120 for 2 full tanks. Got 48mpg on the hwy. Wife was on the back both times. Many years ago, the bruises are almost gone. Last year in Utah we consistantly averaging 95-100 for hours. Bike seems to enjoy those speeds.

Re: Speed

First time my son rode my 99LT (quite tame compared to his 1000GIXXER) he went down are road (paved remote country) with a tight S curve ending in a stop sign. At near entrance to the curve he started applying brakes to stop at T in the road.

When he got stopped!!! and came back from his ride he said Man that thing has good brakes, and proceded to tell me that he was doing 100 Indicated at start of deceleration. What he did not realize until he got stopped with losts of pucker factor was that the bike is an American bike and registers big speedo numbers in MPH and he thought he was doing 100 KPH (62mph - speedo error of 6mph). Had it not been for him being a skilled rider and good brakes/road conditions it might have ended much differently.

The thought never crossed my mind about the mileage thing, but now I am sure to tell anyone who rides it to beware!!

Can laugh about it now, but at the time , not so much

1999 K1200LT 33K miles
1999 Concours 107K Km

Doesn't matter what you ride, but ride it, don't spend all your time polishing!

Re: Speed

I'm not quite sure if I've taken her, or she's taken me at brake neck speed?

thin the fastest i've been was about 95mph or so passing small and BIG cagers as I rode from Dallas back home to Tucson. for a good portion of the way I had my Gerbings turne up since temps hit the 30s wen the sun went down.

At those speeds my thick waterproof winter gloves with the grip hetaers on HI werent enough to keep my fingers tips from getting cold.
