How low to go to sale 03 LT?

I have an 03 LT with 38k miles that I am trying to sale for $6800, which is to high I guess. I know it is winter, but would I really get much more in the spring? What amazes me is that an 03 Goldwing with 100k goes for 10k to 12k and they both cost about the same new.

depends upon where you live. other than a recent cold spell, lower 20s at night, it's still riding season here.

Did you buy it new?
The price for a K1200LT is an anomaly...as a buyer, I feel very lucky to have such an incredible ride with the sophistication and technology that definately exceeds the GW in almost every aspect, for half the price....BUT, there is not a dealer in every podunk town all across the US, there is not a major crapload of aftermarket doodads available, and lets face it, Honda has a damn good reputation for reliability. Ya just gotta face it, supply/demand....that's what its all about...If you want to ride a goldwing, your gonna pay a lot for it, but when you get tired of riding in a straight line comfortably, you will get a lot back when you sell...with the LT...Who cares, its a party every time I get on it..I'll never get rid of it anyway, so resale isnt a factor....dos centavos!

Well, to be honest, $6800 is a little high. Reduce the price to, say, $500 and let me know when I can come over and pick it up.

NADA shows it between $6000 & $8000 so I say you have it priced about right.

Re: How low to go to sale 03 LT?

The market for an LT is small but it's out there. I bought my 03 off eBay back in 06 and I bought my 05 off of Craigslist back in 2011. I looked a long time before I found one I wanted. Don't give up too quick. Not everyone wants an LT but I guarantee you that there is someone out there that will want yours once they find it. A low mileage LT like that is a good find........

The reason I got the LT for this price was basically the person did not know anything about the bike, bought it, got screwed by the dealer on numerous service items, (his words) he got put off BMW's and wanted to just get rid of it. That was one side of the story. He also said he had recently lost his job, the wife served him divorce papers and he had no money to live on and needed cash in a hurry. So it basically boils down to this, are you selling it because you have to or selling it because you want to? If you can wait a while till a buyer comes along then make up a price and stick to it. If you need to sell it because you have to have it gone next week, then you sell it for dirt cheap.
BMW's are not like Gold Wings, they have a very small niche in the market, another problem is people read about issues that LT's are famous for, being top heavy, trouble at slow speeds, final drive problems, etc.and are turned away from this bike, all they have to do now days is google LT and the good and the bad is there to read.

Be patient. Recently sold my 2005 LT. Bike was in great shape, had a whole bunch of accessories and I only got $7500 and that was after 3 months and a couple of price reductions. OH, almost forgot, the problem was the 73,000 miles on the odometer!

Damn, I was gonna tell him $150. But seriously if the blue book is 6-8K, I'd but it at the lower end and be willing to dicker a bit. I paid 3100 for my 02 last March but it needed a clutch and had 97K on it. Now at 103K with a lotta new parts on it.

Well I bought a "tacky" and needs tires 02 with 53000 on it last Aug. Paid $3000.

You might be a tad high?? but if it were me ?..I'd wait till the weather starts to warm a bit.

Based on what I have seen (and remembered!) of sales here lately, I expect that bike to go in the $4-5k range.

Re: How low to go to sale 03 LT?

I bought my 03 LT in November for $7500. There weren't many out there and it was what I wanted. This one only had 15,000 miles on it and was being sold by a dealer which meant $8100 after TTL. There don't seem to be many more available at the moment. If you can wait I would stick with that as a selling price. I forgot to check what town you are in but I would post in Houston and Dallas as well. Dallas especially has a good BMW following.

Re: How low to go to sale 03 LT?

As a quick look on craigslist here is what I found.

I am no genius or expert on selling items on CL, but I did sell and purchase 3 LT's and a GSA in the last 3 years. It only takes one buyer and if you get an offer and it is close, take it and run. On ALL of my LT sales, I had on offer and took the first offer and left the ad on CL and NEVER got another email after the first offer where I sold the bike.

Funny that the GSA I had quite a few lookie-loos who wanted to kick the tires and come see the bike. But the first real offer I had I sold it.

Also put up lots of pictures and even some stock pictures. CL will now let you put up

Thread JACK, sort of??? Re: How low to go to sale 03 LT?

Did you manually search all those CL places, or is there a tool for searching multiple areas in CL at one time? I used to know of one, but they were forced to shut down. I'd love to know if there are new versions available.

This was just a quick manual search of a few CL sites that have historically large concentractions of LTs

any of the above search engines will work for searching across multiple CL sites....

Re: How low to go to sale 03 LT?

I believe your price is just right . . . based on the following!!

FWIW I have sold two bikes in the recent past on the internet and got my asking price for both -
2002 K1200LT and a 2007 R1200GS and sold them within a few short days of the listings. I
live in Cincinnati and the LT was sold to a guy in Los Angeles and the GS went to a woman in
Atlanta.

What I believe and was told by each of these buyers the one thing that "hooked" them was the
type, quality and amount of detail pictures I took. Putting the right lighting, background and
various perspective in my shots took some planning and time. Pictures help get the buyer very
emotional about the bike to a point you will get a great price. Too many sellers do not
understand this. Crappy pictures that do not standout, text write ups that over / under inform.

What you are selling a is a high quality, well maintained BMW and you are looking to excite and
attract a "Buyer" that wants to own a BMW your are not interested in attracting price shoppers -
they are only by motivated by price!! Okay I will get off my rant . . .

Oh yea I sold that 2002 LTwith 68,000 miles for $6,500 with almost no farkles in two days on
eBay last summer!! And is wasn't my charming personality . . .

I am not a shutterbug by any stretch of the imagination, although I do have some nice DSLR camera equipment. What kind of photos, composition, etc. etc are you referring to? Samples, and what went into designing and composing each one would be of great value to many of us photographically challenged folk.

Not looking to sell my LT, but always interested in learning new things that may be helpful down the road.

Re: How low to go to sale 03 LT?

For those who asked or are intersted here are two albums I posted when I sold my bikes.
Both buyers commented to me during the bike pick up that the pictures is what really got
them excited and represented the bike well.

When I took the pictures, as the seller, I made the assumption the buyer already knew what
the bike looked like and had seen many other pictures of the same model bike. I was trying
to achieve a level of detail that showed large, clean, over lit and detailed shots of
components and interesting perspectives of the bike. Please note on occasion I did
Photoshop some the of pictures - but in no instance did I hide flaws - mostly color, hue and
background!!

Re: How low to go to sale 03 LT?

Thank you for telling me about that web site search tempest. Found an 09 LT with under 2000 miles. Didn't think there were any left with such low mileage. That's amazing.

I bought by '02 LT two years ago with ~38,000 miles for $6500. PO was nice enough to have a new back tire put on the day before we transferred the title.

Re: How low to go to sale 03 LT?

I bought my '02 last year in August, 39k miles, for $7250 before tax. I was at the Harley Dealer and there she was! I looked at her, she looked at me, and it was love at first sight. Damn the cost, I wanted her and I knew she wanted me! New rear rotor, to cure the cow bell, and new windshield. Removed the hideous trunk and added a rack. Been reliable and lots of fun. The rest is history.

Re: How low to go to sale 03 LT?

I had to give up riding my '99 LT, due to leg issues. Had three surgeries in my left leg. I bought a 2015 K1600GTL and a Hannigan Trike Conversion. I love live love both rides. I tried for a year to sell my LT, which runs like a top has many many aftermarket add ons etc. I wa getting offers like two grand, and twenty five hundred hundred if I throw in the Unigo trailer. I ended up giving it to my nephew who lives in the black hills. It is just too nice a bike to sell it for peanuts. It has given my so much joy, and now someone else is appreciating it.

Re: How low to go to sale 03 LT?

I came real close to buying an LT about 10 years ago, but I just couldn't stretch the budget. Then I looked locally for about a year.

I chose the least expensive bike I could find, because I knew enough to know that the dealer was going to get the rest of my money.

$2,800 for a clutch

I know how good of a bike this is because I rode one years ago, but most people don't, and they never will. That's why you see so many parts on ebay. Repair it for 2,800 bucks or part it out and make 3,500?

In my opinion you have to be the best option. There are a lot of people asking to much. It's not how much you see them listed for, it's how much people actually sell them for.

Re: How low to go to sale 03 LT?

You last two guys know you're replying to a 3 1/2 year-old thread about values on an 03 LT, right? Probably a completely useless thread at this point.

And yep, a clutch is expensive on these, if you choose to have a shop do it. The LT is not a bike to own if you don't plan on wrenching on it yourself.

Sounds like you got a great deal. Speaking of the R1200C I always wanted a Montana or CLC. Always thought a marriage between the CLC and Montaulk woulda been sweet!

So what's the difference between a K1200LT and a K1200LT chrome?
