Re: LT names
My first BMW was an '85 K100RT. Not a thing of great beauty -- it had obviously been on the ground a few times, and from speed, not just stationary tip-overs. What I know of its history, it's better traveled than I ever will be. My girlfriend loves riding on the back, though to be honest, the two of us don't really fit that well... But we love it, and this spring, we decided it needed a name. We tried to come up with a German name, I failed, in that the only name I could think of was a friend of mine, and I wasn't going to be riding HIM... So...my GF comes up with "Hildegard" -- a rough, tough, and strong sounding female Germanic name. Hilde for short.
A side story. Before my current long term GF, I had a somewhat odd relationship with another woman of the same first name... She had two toy Pomeranian dogs, named "Wolfgang" ("Wolfie") and "Hildegard" ("Hilde"). And here's my GF naming my BMW "Hilde". Well I told her the back story, but figured, I'd roll with it. Hilde.
A rather short period of time later, I decided to invest in a 2002 LT, as it had a more comfy seat for my GF than did the '85. So, the name was obvious: Wolfie/Wolfgang, and since it is kind of "her" bike, it's ok that it is a male name. Still got them both, Hilde is my bike, Wolfie is "our" bike.
