LT names

How did you come about naming your bike? Is there a connection between the name and the LT?
I'm thinking of naming mine "The Silver Bullet." (that was the name of my police car in Hon.[we owned our own patrol cars])

Re: LT names

Mine is named Gunter. There was a Michelob dark beer commercial where Martin Mull told us that dark beer was not only drunk by thick necked men named Gunter. Name seemed to fit a German bike.

This LT is the only bike I have ever named. I was compelled to name her "Latifah". Why you might ask? It's because she has an [email protected]@ a mile wide but daaaamn can that fat lady sing.

Re: LT names

Mine was named by its former owner. It is called "Magic Carpet". He named it after he found out he had cancer because it got him away from the thoughts of his treatments and what he was facing.

Since I got her, I have put a vanity plate on that says "MGCRPT" in his honor and always have a picture on the bike of him. I explain the meaning of the vanity plate every chance I get.

That's how it happened for me. I named my '05 LT "Gray Ghost" after I took a photo of its shadow on a shoulder barrier along the interstate. I was towing it on a trailer... no one was on the bike (of course)... the bike was gray. Reminded me of a rider-less horse, so "Gray Ghost" came to mind.

My '09 LT is black (of course - no color choices that year). I haven't thought of a name yet.

Give it time.

Re: LT names

I never was motivated to name my first LT but when I first got my current one, I started hanging out on this forum and saw that naming was pretty common and that motivated me to think about an appropriate name. "Gold Brick" came to mind but that seemed too condescending, so I never spoke it aloud in her presence. "Trigger" now seems to fit, 'cause she is definitely a "Wonder Horse", just like Roy Rogers' "Trigger".

My Bike is called Shamu. She is as big as a whale and could kill me some day. Shamu is the most famous killer whale, next to Free Willy that is. I did not want to ride a willy, lol. Now that is funny, don't care where you are from...

We were headed up the road one morning to meet friends when Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride" came on the radio. My head was bobbing and Donna said "That's it! We'll call it The Magic Carpet!". It stuck.

Re: LT names

My first BMW was an '85 K100RT. Not a thing of great beauty -- it had obviously been on the ground a few times, and from speed, not just stationary tip-overs. What I know of its history, it's better traveled than I ever will be. My girlfriend loves riding on the back, though to be honest, the two of us don't really fit that well... But we love it, and this spring, we decided it needed a name. We tried to come up with a German name, I failed, in that the only name I could think of was a friend of mine, and I wasn't going to be riding HIM... So...my GF comes up with "Hildegard" -- a rough, tough, and strong sounding female Germanic name. Hilde for short.

A side story. Before my current long term GF, I had a somewhat odd relationship with another woman of the same first name... She had two toy Pomeranian dogs, named "Wolfgang" ("Wolfie") and "Hildegard" ("Hilde"). And here's my GF naming my BMW "Hilde". Well I told her the back story, but figured, I'd roll with it. Hilde.

A rather short period of time later, I decided to invest in a 2002 LT, as it had a more comfy seat for my GF than did the '85. So, the name was obvious: Wolfie/Wolfgang, and since it is kind of "her" bike, it's ok that it is a male name. Still got them both, Hilde is my bike, Wolfie is "our" bike.

Had a set of tires, think they were Bridgestones, that made an unusual sound whenever it was leaned over. The sound reminded me of the super copter in 80s show Airwolf.

Re: LT names

I always have had a name for every bike I have owned and though I have had this 08 LT for just a few weeks nothing popped in to mind until last night. Going for a Chinese Buffet dinner run the name Orca popped into my mind and seemed to stick. Is black, with a light belly, very large and just "killer" to look at. Orca it is.

The boss and chief CEO of the house has named my ride "BB". The reason being my ride is blue and I'll let you think of what the second "B" stands for. Here is a hint I guess the CEO thinks I spend more time with "BB" than with her. I don't know but it is a great way and allows you to forget your thoughts and life in general.

I'm sure the second "B" is for "babe", right...? As in Babe the Blue Ox?

Re: LT names

I've owned over 30 bikes and never named one. The only exception was some of the kick start Bonnevilles and Sportsters I owned in the 70's. I called them all kind of names when they wouldn't start.
