Trailer hitch mount rod

Is it mandatory to have the rear trailer hitch mount rod on the LT? My LT came with a uni-go trailer and the hitch attached to the rear of the bike. Its painful to remove and reattach this hitch mounting rod that attaches under the two side bags. Everytime i have to work on the rear wheel I need to hammer this rod to fit back in space.

I rarely use the trailer. I was considering skipping this rod Its essential for the sidebags to be attached to each other using this rod.

Re: Trailer hitch mount rod

I assume that you are speaking of the propriety Unigo hitch? If you choose to leave it off you would need to replace the 4 speed nut that the hitch replaces. If you will send me your mailing address I can send you those speed nuts. As far as the difficulty of removing and replacing the hitch I have never had use a hammer to refit. If you would send me pictures of your hitch I might be able to suggest ways to adjust the hitch so you won't have a continuing problem.
