Lighting questions..sorry!

Hi all.

Apologies in advance for the lighting questions. I am having a hell of a time finding lights for my 2002 LT. I have searched on the boards but I am not seeing what I hoped.

I am looking for lights to mount under the tip-over wings AND under the mirrors. I have already upgraded to HID low beam.

Electriical Connection no longer makes under wing mounts for the LT. Clearwater "sort of does, they CAN be mounted under the wing" (that is a quote..) also Clearwater says "they CAN be mounted under the mirrors".

I do not want to break the bank but do want lights in both locations, switchable with low beam and high beam.

I am also replacing all the bulbs in the instrument panel. 2002 LT, what size?? The BMW sizes I found do not seem to match to sizes I see for sell.

Last thing for now Has anyone replaced all the blbs with LED's, used any colored LED's, If yes, what is your opinion, what type & color of bulbs and..can you please post or essage me some photos please?

Thank you!!

Roger

Re: Lighting questions..sorry!

I had saved links for this re: dash lights. Thinking of doing it too.
http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64806
http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthre...ht=dash+lights

Using EZY-Mount brackets works well for accessory lighting. I have them for mounting PIAA 1100X under the headlights on my 2004. (same as 2002) I have the lights switched independant from the bike's lights, my choice.
http://www.ezymount.com/kits/ezymount_k1200lt.htm EZY-mount is a sponsor on this board.

I also have HID low beam but plan to add DDM Tuning's HID for my high beam, too.

Hope this helps.

Re: Lighting questions..sorry!

Back when I had my '00, I replaced all of the panel illumination laps with the 3-LED reds from superbrightleds.com. WOrked like a champ!

I have installed a couple of amber versions of the same 3-LED element in my deflectors a la Wings Of Gold.

As for red as my color choice, red is great for illumination in such apps because it does not interfere with the rods' sensitivity to light, meaning your night vision is not adversely impacted as it would be with a white light.

Re: Lighting questions..sorry!

Thank you, both for the replies.

Any ideas for which lights under the wings & best mounts for them, and what would be a good choice for under the mirrors?

Re: Lighting questions..sorry!

As referenced in the post above, I used the BMR under mirror mounts, and a set of WARN mini-HID (gotta give credit where credit is due - Hoss found these, and turned me on to them). SWEET little units; tiny (see pics), with the ballast built in.

Click here to see where I ordered them. $342.00 all in, with shipping.

Attached pics show size detail. I painted the stainless steel flat black so they'd blend in, and also trimmed the length of the bolt a bit.

Bright.... YES. Picture below shows Bike's Brights (Aftermarket HID), PIAAs, and Motolights (motolights have aftermarket LED inserts), and WARNs all on at once. You can see who's stealing the show!

30W HID lamps produce an impressive 1,850 lumens, intensely white 5,550k color and a focused 12 degree pattern.

Re: Lighting questions..sorry!

It does seem that the bastages raised the price in the last two months!

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WRN-83552 - $356.95 $12.90 shipping

I paid $342.99, what Brian is not telling everyone, is I sent him the link confirming my order and the bastage used the 10% coupon that was attached... Dam, must be nice to have friends like that...

Re: Lighting questions..sorry!

Great - Thank you for all the information!

The only thing I am having trouble with now is finding anything for under the tip-over wings. I have seen people with lights mounted here but the only company I know of who made mounts for that location does not anylonger. Electrical Connection.

Anyone have a lead for a place mounts for the wings might be found?

Thanks again!

Holy crap Batman! I have paid half that for cars that I put 75K miles on. WTF mate?
I try not to drive at night around here, the hoofed vermin are much too numerous to make that a reasonably safe endeavor.

Re: Lighting questions..sorry!

I think I have the Hella 550's mounted under the wing. Well wait, I think they're 550's but I'm certain they're under the wing. Work well, and I'm generally satisfied overall, mostly satisfied with the cost. And to be honest, I mounted them there to cover up the cuts made in the wing covers left by highway pegs that I removed. And based on the reaction I get from oncoming traffic, they work quite well.
This isn't a great photo, but you'll get the idea.

Under the tip over wings? the OEM mounts will serve that purpose quite well. If you have the OEM bars, drill a hole threw it and use a long screw. Aftermarket (J-pegs) = same.

I used these however under the mirrors http://www.bmrproducts.com/products.php?cat=3

P.s.- I had the Hella's on Barbara, loved those as well. Compared to the Warn's, the hella's were a hookers vs escorts... Quick and dirty vs Nice and Nasty!...

Re: Lighting questions..sorry!

Thank you all again. I hate bring up the beaten and abused questions..but it is MY bike..so it is different than all the other exact same questions...really..it, uh...is.

Okay - Purchased the Clearwater Krista's to mount under the mirror. Pricey? Dear Lord! Yes they are!

Under the wings I am still coin flipping for the lights. I am leaning hard toward the Glenda by Clearwater. I like the lights, they are switchable low/high with head light.

I don't like how completely unresponsive Clearwater is and am not sure I want to spend more money on their products. So I may go with Hella.

Either way, I hope to vaporize any critters that decide go kamakazi on my bike.

Thanks for the input!

Roger
