Tell me I don't have to take the upper fairing off

Clymers says, "remove the upper fairing as described in Chapter 16" to replace instrument panel bulbs. Can you just carefully reach up under the fairing to R & R the bulbs? Thought I would ask before I the spent time. If you do have to remove the upper fairing is there anything else you need to do while you're in there? Haven't had this fairing off yet.
Thanks

Take the windshield off, take the dash off , don't forget the screw behind the map light, and you can get to the bulbs with a pair of needle nosed pliers. Not much to it.

I got a pair of curved hemostats, about 8" long, and they work great for reaching through there.
