Question Throttle return spring too strong

Hello all
I am new in this forum and I am the owner of a 2006 K1200LT.
I have bought it 6 months ago and ridden 10 thousands km.
The throttle is reasonably smooth but not as smooth as other bikes I have.
Thanks to the cruise control it is not really painful but it should be better.
The return is very brisk and snappy so I am convinced that it is not a matter of cables or lubrication but a matter of springs.
Did somebody try to do something with those springs. I am considering disconnecting one of them.
I made a search in old threads but found nothing convincing.
Any ideas?

I don't remember anyone playing around with the "return" spring.

Lat year I replaced the cables in my 00 with the latest version BMW has. I seem to remember that this version is the second or third one BMW has to help reduce this problem.

You can check with your local dealer if the latest version is the one that came with your 06. In the past some have tried adding teflon lubrication into the cables--something BMW warns against trying. This was on the earliest version of the cable; I don't remember anyone reporting back that it helped.

If someone has taken off the upper side panel, on the shift lever side, the cable may not have been placed back exactly where it belongs. from having spent way to much time playing with cables and adjusting the cables to get the CC working, I have first hand knowledge that routing the cable effects the ease or difficulty or turning the cable.

Sorry I cannot offer more hope.

I made an adjustment to the throttle return spring.
I posted about it with pictures, 'long time ago.
I'll see if I can dig it up.

The procedure does not require any disassembly of the throttle bodies, you just have to remove body panels to get access.

I used a hemostat and piece of orthodontic wire as a tool to "lasso" the hooked end of the spring and unhook it from its perch and move it to a more relaxed location. Any number of devices could be fashioned in place of my hemostat tool, locking needlenose vise grips and a small diameter wire would probably do. The method is to simply have a long narrow tool that can reach in between the throttle bodies to hook the spring end and then reposition it.

My bike is a 2000 with 85,000 miles. I did the throttle spring modification after I upgraded the throttle cables. The throttle cable upgrade made things much smoother, but I wanted less throttle spring. I did the modification in 2009 and it has been that way ever since. C'est tres bien. I have been happy with the modification and haven't notices any drawbacks.
When I first did the modification I tried it with 1, 2 and all 3 springs altered. With all 3 springs adjusted, the throttle bodies would not snap completely shut when the throttle grip was released. Consequently I changed two of the springs and left the third in the original position. I suggest you check to see how your bike's throttle bodies perform with one and then two springs adjusted.
The adjustment is completely reversible.

CharlieVT . How did this mod work out. I changed #1 spring and it helped. I ask the BMW dealer about this mod. He said "DON'T DO IT"! He said if the throttle body does not completely shut it will burn a hole in the piston.

Find a new dealer! That is a ridiculous statement if I ever heard one. Throttle bodies not shutting all the way will only result in high idle, same is if you let off the throttle but not quite all the way. It will NOT burn holes in pistons.
