Flashing ABS lights.

Today while driving on a city street, there was a long groove in the asphalt (not sure how else to decribe it). It was too late to avoid it and the tires got caught in it, the bike shook a little then I went down.

The bike sled acroos the road sideways and I can see sparks coming from underneath it.

The Left side mirror came off & I was able to put it back on.

Coupe of guys came over & helped me pick it up. It started with no problem.

Aside from a cut below my knee and my shoelaces and one shoe cuffed up, the bike rubber triangle on the left side was chewed up a bit, small burn on one part of the plastic below.

But what I noticed was that the APS lights kept flashing all the way home, the brakes seem to work fine.

I later noticed a mettalic sound as if somthing is loose.

I look below the bike but everything seemes intact.

This is a 1999 LT..

How do I fix the flashing ights and why are they flashing in the first place?

Really can't afford an expensive repair.

Thanks for all the help.

Cool Re: Flashing ABS lights.

This is just a system reset that is needed because the ABS sensed one wheel spinning while the other was not, making it think there was a wheel lock-up. BTDT!

The dealer can simply plug in and do the system reset for next to nothing, but they will probably charge you unless you have a real good relationship. There is a method of doing this on the early ABS systems posted on this site if you search for it.

Good Luck!

Re: Flashing ABS lights.

Here is a guide to resetting the ABS on this site. I have done this and can personally attest that it does in fact work as the title suggests.

The beauty of the '99 and '00 is that you can keep riding with full braking potential (minus ABS function) even if the ABS has gone south. Check your code and reset using the above link when you have time but don't worry too much about it, you still have brakes. Take time now though to carefully check all your brake lines, reservoirs, calipers, sensors and pads to make double sure that nothing got damaged, I could see a sensor, or hose being damaged in a topple.
