clutch replace price

I just had my clutch replaced by Blue Moon BMW in Norcross, GA. I think they gave me a good deal. Replaced clutch, seals, slave cyclinder, and rear main seal for $1,850.

Re: clutch replace price

I did mine for about $500 parts and free labor... my own.

I was quoted $2000 to $2300 for parts and labor by a Texas dealer, to include clutch, and rear main seal.

Seems like for a shop to do it, you got a fair price if they did it right.

Re: clutch replace price

How many miles do you have Al? I'm coming up on 70K on my 2003 and I did notice a little slip so I figured when I go to Blue Moon for my 72K service I may be looking for a clutch replacement as well.

I have 68K on the bike. It wasn't giving me any problems but I had the bike triked and decided to get the clutch replaced due to the miles and extra weight of the trike.

When you are at Blue Moon tell them I recommended them

Re: clutch replace price

I just had mine done by BMW dealer in Jacksonville, Florida and labor was just under 1g. I had the parts as I was going to do it myself before stuff got in the way and they had no problem using my parts. Sure is nice riding with a working clutch.

Maybe I was a little quick to make a recommendation . The trike is back at Blue Moon. The rear main seal they installed is leaking. They have to take the trike apart to remove the clutch to fix it. It's probably going to be there another week at least.

Hi John.

I don't got no pictures to post. I'll have to wait until I get it back from the shop.

Hannigan is doing the trailer now. I should be able to go get it in a couple of weeks

But the good news is that it's at the dealer and the dealer is going to make it good!

That bites! I hope they fix it right this time, give you a loaner, and do not charge you a single cent for re-doing it!

How did you come to realize the rear main was leaking? Did you have a week hole in the bottom of the intermediate housing?

They didn't offer a loaner but they know I have a GS at home. I live 100 miles away so they said they would deliver it to my house so I wouldn't have to make another trip there. They knew I was really pissed.

There was a few drops of oil under the bike after sitting up overnight on the first night after riding it the 100 miles home. They don't know if it's the rear main seal leaking but they have to rule that out. Unfortunately, to get to it they will have to remove the trike kit No there is no weep hole in the housing but I asked them to drill one this time.

Holy oil seals, Batman!

Glad you caught it quickly.

Nice that they offered to deliver it to you. If they have to remove the trike kit to get to it, better on their dime than yours! I trust they have the manuals and proper torque settings for the trike kit components.

Good luck. Please keep us posted.

Blue Moon installed the trike kit. They are an authorized Hannigan dealer. They probably aren't really happy with me right now. When I went to pick up the trike last week the tech that installed it pointed out that the fender on the left side was very close to the wheel. He said the fiberglass body was not symmetrical. When I got home I called Hannigan and gave the person I spoke to a hard time "for selling me a defective kit". He transferred me to a tech that assured me there was nothing wrong with the kit that the problem was with the installation. I am not convinced about that because the Blue Moon tech seemed to be very proud of his work. Anyway, the next day the fender started rubbing the tire every now and then so I talked with the service manager at Blue Moon and told him what the Hannigan tech said and that I wanted them to readjust the body. He told me to bring it back and they would look at it. Since Hannigan has authorized Blue Moon to install their kits, Hannigan is probably not too happy with Blue Moon... Blue Moon is probably not happy with me for calling them.

Re: clutch replace price

Hannigan may not be happy with Blue Moon for "improperly installing" the kit, that is between them.

Blue Moon may not be happy with you for calling Hannigan, that should also be between them.

The manufacturer says bad install, and the authorized installer says bad kit. Either way is not your fault and they need to work it out to get a CORRECT result on your bike and get it to you with the minimum of inconvenience to you. They should not put you in the middle of THEIR pissing contest.

Regardless of whether kit or installation was at fault, shame on Blue Moon for delivering the trike to you like that. As an authorized installer they should have known to check all clearances. Add to that the leaking seal that they just replaced, and it seems their abilities and QC leave much to be desired. Could also just be dumb luck.
