Hydraulic Center Stand Puked

My hydraulic center stand rebuild lasted 1 year. I went to use it the other day. It started to lift the bike and then lowered it back down. I put the bike on the side stand and got off. Big puddle of Hydraulic fluid under the bike. Thought maybe it blew a seal. Nope! After taking it off the bike, I see that one of the nut/bolt bosses on the cap has broken off. Is anyone parting out a hydraulic pump? For obvious reasons ($$), I don't want to buy a new one. I've attached 2 pics that show what I'm talking about. Rgds.

Re: Hydraulic Center Stand Puked

You can fix that just like the one in the write up by Joe. He did the same thing - got the nuts too tight (the o-ring does all the sealing).

Re: Hydraulic Center Stand Puked

That will work! Thanks. I can do that. Mine lasted 1 year before it broke. What is the torque value I should use this time? Rgds.

Just snug. I watch the cylinder as I am snugging them up and when the distance goes to zero (o-rings now seated) I stop turning. The spring washers keep the rather loose nuts from working off. Never actually tried to measure the torque, just did it by feel. Very light touch on the 10mm wrench. The o-rings do the sealing so snug is the word of the day.

If it is leaking take it apart and clean the o-rings and the seal area again, fight the urge to go just a little bit tighter - it won't stop the leak.

Re: Hydraulic Center Stand Puked

I have also found that 135ml of oil is optimal. That big 19mm bolt you see at the base is the best place to re-fill the old girl. If you tilt it rod down you can get her to take about 60ml on gravity alone. Then if you cycle the rod in and out slowly you can get her to suck the rest of it in. Then replace the bolt and you are ready to go.
