Checking the Valves.

Well the old girl is just shy of 45,000 so I decided to change the oil and check the valves. Everything was fine. They were all in spec. Changed two of them out on a previous inspection. I only bring this up because I also did a valve check on a Kawasaki Vulcan over the same weekend. Man, what a difference. The Kawasaki had spring loaded rocker arms. Slide the rocker arm, pick up the old shim (disc in bucket) with a magnet and slip a new one in. I realize there's a big difference between a horizontal four and a big V-twin, but what a simply, brilliant design. My hat's off to the engineers at Kawasaki.

The original 2-valve K was also very simple. Use a special tool to pry the lifter down, pull out the shim, install new shim, remove the tool. Valve adjustment complete. Then BMW got a better idea....

Re: Checking the Valves.

What's the valve adjust like on the new K1600's? Anyone done that yet?
